About this property
Georgian Elegance in the Heart of Bloomsbury
This bright, elegant Georgian (1760's) apartment is your perfect pied-a-terre in Central London. Situated in Handel St. a quiet, tree lined side street just off Brunswick Sq. in the heart of Bloomsbury, the flat is barely five minutes walk from Russell Square tube (Piccadilly line) or the red double decker buses on Woburn Place/Southampton Row. A pleasant ten minute walk though Russell Sq Gardens and you're at the British Museum and UCL Campus or walk North to Euston Rd for the British Library and St Pancras (Eurostar). To the South (two tube stops) or 20 minutes walk, takes you to Covent Garden, Shaftesbury Ave and the West End theatres.
The whole building was completely refurbished in 2005 and this first floor flat (US second floor) is a charming place to return to after a busy day of sight seeing or shopping. Retaining the original marble fireplace and painted wooden shutters, the high ceilings and long Georgian windows give a feeling of space and light whilst modern, quality furniture ensures your comfort. All has been recently painted in cool grey with white woodwork with deep pile fitted carpet throughout. The queen-size bed has pocket spring mattress and the sofa bed is very comfortable. The arm chairs are of cream leather, the kitchen area is fully equipped and the pull-out dining table can seat four or more if necessary. The bathroom, newly refurbished in 2013 now has a full walk in shower with 'deluge' shower head, heated marble tiled floor, heated towel rail, toilet and basin. The separate utility/laundry room on the landing has a sink, washer and dryer, iron/board and room to store luggage. The Brunswick Centre, Bloomsburys new High St. is moments away and affords great grocery shopping at gourmet supermarket Waitrose, two Chemists, a Starbucks, plus an interesting Farmers Market on Weds and Sats serving great street food! The arty Curzon Bloomsbury Cinema has been newly rebuilt, now having six screens and couple of bars . Travel to the flat is excellent with Heathrow barely an hour away, straight through on the Piccadilly line. Also easy to get to Euston, Marylebone and Paddington for trains. The Eurostar train to Paris/Brussels is 10 minutes walk or one tube stop. Liverpool St.(Stanstead) or Victoria (Gatwick) are a short ride away by cab, all of which give this bijou 'home away from home' the advantage of a most central location whilst enjoying a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood setting.
A recent visitor from VA says...'we LOVED the flat. The location was superb, we fell in love with Waitrose and enjoyed walking in the gardens nearby. The light was wonderful and the history of the house fascinating, we had never seen windows with shutters like that! You had thought of everything - the advantage of you the owners living here part of the time is that it is so well equipped and comfortable. We definitely want to come again.

Great location! The apartment was clean and welcoming. The host communicated clearly and responded quickly to inquiries. I would definitely recommend!!!
The flat was perfect for our girls trip. It had everything you could need - including the many things you didn’t think you needed. Reassuring to have own laundry. The neighborhood was charming and beautiful. Very close to museums, great food spots, shopping, and several tube stations. The hosts were incredibly kind and thoughtful, periodically checking in. We were a rocks throw from multiple grocers so could stock up for meals and the first cuppa of the day. This flat had became a special landmark - a place for cozy mornings and a nightly landing spot to share our daily treasures.

What a wonderful review thanks so much Alex. I’m so glad you guys had a lovely time.
Location, location, location. The apt. is steps from Russell Square Underground and from there a straight shot on the Picadilly Line to Heathrow and a good number of London attractions. Apt. Was clean, well stocked and a welcome respite after our long days of navigating the London sights. A to the host for communication.
The apartment is very charming and is in an ideal location near Russell Square. All information is provided and communication with Antonia couldn’t be easier. A great place to stay in London!
Thoroughly enjoyed our time in London. A couple small issues with cleanliness, but the owners dealt with it professionally and expediently. Would stay here again.

Thank you so much for your positive review and am very glad you enjoyed your stay in Handel St. Hope you will come again sometime soon! Judith
A very comfortable flat, in an excellent location. Very close to buses and trains, supermarket, shops, pubs and restaurants. Enjoyed the stay very much.
We were in London visiting our daughter in January for a couple of weeks. The flat was perfect for a couple, close to underground stations, Kings Cross and walkable for a number of central locations. Antonia was very responsive & helpful. Would definitely recommend.
My mother and I had an extremely pleasant stay at the flat. The photos don’t do this place justice. We loved the neighbourhood and we were so impressed with the flat itself. It had everything that we needed to make ourselves a home. The pull out bed and bed in the main bedroom were very comfortable. The property manager went above and beyond in her responses. If we had questions or concerns, they were promptly addressed.
Ideal location on a street that was central, but quiet. Our host was solicitous, with sincerely concern for our comfort throughout our stay. The flat was well-equipped and spotless. Altogether optimal!

Thank you for the positive view of our flat in London. I am glad you enjoyed your stay, Best, Judith
Ideal location in a quiet, less frantic part of London. Was nice to come here at the end of the day and relax, or stop at a pub just a few minutes away.Nothing to add that hasn’t already been said - communication with the property manager was easy, as was the check in process. The flat itself was great, and within easy walking distance to several tube stations and Paddington, if you need a train. We’ll try to stay here again, when we return.

This flat is wonderful! My boyfriend and I just spent a week there and it is a lovely location, excellent space (for London or any large city) and the family that own it are extraordinarily nice and accomodating. I would recommend this flat to anyone and would want to stay there my next time in London.

I enjoyed a week at the flat in April. It was so quiet that I wondered if there was anyone else in the building with us! The beds were great and comfy (including the pullout). Owner communication was stellar. I absolutely cannot wait to return.

Hope you can come again soon. Best, Judith
Our London flat was perfect for our visit. Fantastic location near several Underground stations. Grocery store right around the corner with multiple nearby restaurants. The flat gave us room to spread out and cook some of our own meals. It was exactly what I was looking for in the way of accommodations. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
We loved having the space provided in this flat. The kitchen was a big plus as we were able to eat some meals “at home”. The bed was comfy with soft bedding We had some issues with a lack of hot water for a couple of days but Antonia had the issue resolved. The location in Bloomsbury was ideal for walking the city and the Waitrose grocery so nearby was wonderful. If we return to London someday we would be delighted to return to this cozy place. Thank you!

About the host
Hosted by Judith Loft
Judith and Ed live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Judith is a Brit who lived and worked for many years in London before meeting Ed in Rome one sunny morning in June 1994! They were married in London 1995 and she moved permanently to the USA. However...her family, children and grandchildren all live in London, with eldest daughter and family in Brussels. Having their own base in central London was something they wanted to have when Ed retired and now they are able to spend about three months every year in their own lovely little pied-a-terre on Handel St.
Why they chose this property
We wanted a flat that was as central as we could afford, with easy access by tube and by foot to theaters, museums and with good local shopping. We stayed at the Russell Sq Hotel for a few nights to attend a family wedding and realized the area answered all these criteria. Quite by chance we found the property in nearby Handel St. It was in the process of being refurbished and the flats just coming on the market. It didn't take long to decide that we wanted to buy. The building itself is lovely, 1760's Georgian with long windows looking out onto a quiet side street. A plus is an easy walk to the British Museum, British Library, St. Pancras and yet moments from neccesary good shopping!
What makes this property unique
The flat is amazingly convenient for all the urban delights offered by being in such a central situation. The nearby Brunswick Centre re-opened recently with it's fun shops and restaurants and The British Museum is a 10 minute stroll across Russell Sq. But the extra bonus is the Eurostar Terminal at St. Pancras. In ten minutes or so you can wheel your bag up to the check in, hop on the early morning train and 2 hours later enjoy a mid morning coffee and croissant in Paris or Brussels!
