Dzumbe, meaning homestead in the local language Kidigo, has two double and two twin rooms, all ensuite, with both internal and external access and an ensuite double annex with its own entrance, sleeping 10 people in all. Designed in the Swahili style, with a high central hallway, the huge doorways draw in the sea breeze which circulates around the house providing natural air-conditioning in the living areas. Stylishly decorated with eclectic antiques and original art works by famous Kenyan artists this is a perfect house for a family reunion or a group of friends. All the bedrooms have fans and airconditioning.
The house overlooks a turquoise lagoon protected by a reef in the Indian Ocean. It is a vast natural spa and its warm, clear water is heavenly for swimming whether the tide is in or out. The dazzling sand is so fine and so white that you can walk on it barefoot at any time of day. Amid the tropical gardens, there is a wealth of bird life and an assortment of monkeys which play in the grounds and sometimes on your roof. You can hear the sound of bush-babies and cicadas floating in the breeze of the star-studded nights.
Your personal chef and housekeeper take care of the housework. Good food is important to us and we try to make sure that our chefs are both talented and versatile. Fresh seafood is brought to the door by fishermen and "bicycle shops" also deliver vegetables and fruit. Your chef can shop for you or there are supermarkets a short taxi or tuk tuk ride away. There is a range of restaurants from beach bars to real Asian sushi nearby.
You can be as active or relaxed as you like. Yoga, exercise classes, massages and beauty treatments can be arranged in your own house. Activities including watersports, deep sea fishing, snorkelling, cultural and nature tours, camel and horse riding, golf and tennis are all easily arranged. Game Parks are accessible both by road and by air. We can give advice about or arrange travel to other areas.
Dzumbe House is part of Four Twenty South, a family-owned property discretely positioned in three acres of tropical gardens ensuring privacy and security. The houses date from the 1950s and were the original rental houses in Diani. They have been updated with modern comforts but retain their old-world character, charm and tranquility.
