The Cabin At The Old Homestead Near Yosemite

Our rustic cabin is located on a large, private cattle ranch and captures the Western spirit and style of the Gold Country. Although the cabin feels remote, it is closely situated to Groveland (less than 5 miles) and Yosemite National Park (first gate less than 30 miles). One can hike and explore the ranch for miles in all directions. The flora and fauna are beautiful! It is a charming, picturesque, romantic, and tranquil space for couples and solo travelers to unwind from life's daily stresses and great outdoor adventures.

The cabin was once a hunting and mining cabin and was relocated next to an old sluiceway utilized for gold mining. The small cabin measures about 330 sq. ft. and includes a new bathroom and well-supplied kitchen (i.e., kitchenware). It has a spacious wrap-around front porch and side deck. A rustic, Western-style outdoor kitchen for barbecues is located behind the cabin with a bar area. Situated on the deck are chairs and a table with umbrella for outdoor dining, as well as a Weber gas grill.

You can explore any place on the ranch. The ridge visible to the right of the cabin when looking at the front porch, is a special place to view spectacular sunsets over the Central Valley. Take the camping chairs and enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail while watching the sun go down.

Amazing place to stay! Beautiful, private ranch to enjoy for two. A wonderful cabin nestled in a quiet valley surrounded by horses, cattle and peaceful wildlife. Details of the cabin are meticulously thought out with thoughtful comforts ranging from luxurious bedding to specialty kitchen appliances for a relaxed stay with little needs. Close enough to the main attractions of Yosemite, yet far enough to enjoy a private, romantic getaway.

You are staying on a horse ranch. Outstanding property. The terrain and scenery are stunning. An owner who put a lot of thought into what guests would need. Bathroom is great but only has a basic shower. Which besides the bumpy 5 mile road coming in are honestly the only possible drawbacks. And you can't get this scenery and isolation without the bumpy roads. Still cool that civilization is only 10-15 minutes away, including large grocery store. Great place to BBQ. No noise, no lights, no people. We would and likely will rent again.

This cabin was perfect for my husband and me. We spent one day just relaxing at the cabin and another visiting Hetch Hetchy. We couldn't have asked for anything better!

A modern stay in the 18th century

This place is amazing! You live like during the gold rush but with all modern amenities! We had such a great time roaming around the area, and just sitting on the patio enjoying the scenery!

Great Again

I have stayed here 3 different times and this was no different. It is the best stay for 2 people I can imagine. You are alone with the animals and the stars, yet you have every convenience you could ask for.

I love this spot! It is so peaceful and with such amazing views. It was all the was promised and more. You are still close to everything you need, but definitely isolated from any neighbors. 5 Stars isn't enough.

Just perfect

We loved the whole weekend! If you like to get away out in the country, this is the place. The cabin is small, but who cares? Inside has everything imaginable to make your stay complete. If you want to explore Groveland and the surrounding area, it's not far. Hetch Hetchy was one destination up the road, and, wow, it's beautiful too. Oh, and the folks at the ranch were wonderful!

Launch point for Yosemite

Had a very nice stay at the Homestead. It was an extremely hot week and the AC had trouble keeping up when we first checked in but otherwise the cabin was great and very quiet among our bovine neighbors. We spend 3 days hiking in different parts of Yosemite which was an hour or two away. Natalie was a fantastic host and very responsive to any questions we had. Would highly recommend.

Peaceful getaway

We came to celebrate a birthday and see Yosemite for the first time. We stayed two nights and this remote cabin will fool you. It looks so rustic on the outside but the inside was beautifully decorated and the bed was SO comfy! The outbuildings were fun to see and the horses were a special bonus. The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked all of our meals there. Yosemite is a 40ish minute drive and was well worth it! Highly recommend and we’ll stay here again.😊

Well appointed and comfortable

We loved staying on the homestead, and wished we had more time to enjoy the property! We stayed here for two nights - exploring Yosemite during the day. Driving into the property is an adventure in itself, and it is a wonderful feeling arriving back to the cabin after a long day - to enjoy a sunset, sit outside, and pet the horses! The cabin is full of fantastic touches that make it feel like a much larger space - it is extremely well appointed and comfortable. Would love to come back.

We travel often and we came to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We went to Yosemite park and then back to the property in the evenings. We had originally had plans to go to a fine dining restaurant and we loved the property so much that we stayed and enjoyed dinner outside and watched the sunset both nights. It was incredible. The bed was very comfortable, the horses were so excited to see us each day. The entire experience was the best and we will be back ! The only suggestion I have would be a map of the property so we know where we can explore that isn’t intruding on any other property.

The cabin is fabulous. We used it as a base of operations to explore Hetch Hetchy. It was perfect. Some driving. But worth it to not be in the Evergreen Lodge etc etc etc. The cabin is tiny but - for us - it lacked nothing. The kitchen is very well thought out. We made three dinners and wanted for nothing. There is every type of coffee maker available. The property is massive and fun to explore. We hope we return soon.

The perfect place to reconnect

My wife and I booked this property for a quick Valentines getaway and hoping for a chance to reconnect. We ran into a small hiccup in the check-in process which Natalie addressed ASAP. Once checked in our expectations were exceeded in every way. The property is incredible and the sunsets were among the best we've seen (including Santorini!). Every detail in the cabin is tended too right down to the informational signs made to look like state parks signs. It was great and therapeutic to interact with the animals on the property. In the days leading up to our stay Natalie was prompt in her replies. We look forward to visiting again in the near future.

This was the most spectacular experience from top to bottom. No detail was spared in making a quiet rustic cabin surrounded by glorious vistas feel luxurious. The bed- oh the bed!- the pillows and sheets! We felt so relaxed and cozy. As coffee fans, we felt giddy by the array of options and appliances. Blue Bottle! Nespresso! Books and information oh my! I learned about the area and history while watching hummingbirds feast on purple flowers. We saw stars. Heard moos. And frogs. We wish we had more time …but waking up here, venturing to hikes and water in Yosemite, and returning for a nice sleep: I wouldn’t do it any other way. We will be back. Grateful.

Amazing location

Great place to stay. The ranch is very unique and the animals provide good company. The cabin itself is well appointed and has everything a person would need. We had a great time and was the most memorable part of our trip to CA.

Farm living

If you love an adventure, this is for you! So many interesting things to see. The cabin is rustic farm house. Kitchen is well equipped. We traveled back and forth to Yosemite with ease. Groveland is a cute little town to visit. We went to Sonora as well. Nice shopping there. We had a fantastic time at the cabin. We loved feeding the horses apples and carrots with permission from the host. It was our daily routine. Our weather wasn’t great so we didn’t get to enjoy a lot of outdoor activities at the ranch. Our last day the power was out due to the storm, so it was cold. My only suggestion, would be a generator for those times when there isn’t power.
