We had a wonderful few days despite mixed weather. The cottage is very well equipped, cosy yet spacious with lovely bright bedrooms upstairs, the owners were kind and helpful and the location is lovely, great walks along the river and lovely open outlook. We hope to return soon!

Swallow Cottage
We are a family of 4 plus a dog.
Lovely, roomy cottage. Clean and tidy. Well equipped, with plenty of crockery, glasses, mugs, cooking utensils etc.
Nice welcome of some shortbread for us and chews for our doggie!
Very dog friendly.
A little off the beaten track, but lovely peaceful setting, overlooking the fields to the river below. Coast and lovely fishing villages are around 30mins drive - Portsoy Fish and chips are a must - delish!!
Jason and Ally were fabulous hosts - there if you needed them but not intrusive at all. Lovely, helpful people who always ready to chat - even though they are very busy.
Log burner was a highlight, lovely and cosy on the cold, frosty nights.
Only a couple of negatives (but didn’t affect our stay greatly) upstairs floorboards are a little creaky, but it is a converted farm building so only to be expected.
On home and away site it does say there is a dishwasher but there isn’t one in Swallow Cottage - I’m sure this description will be easily rectified.
Don’t hesitate to book - you will love it and you’ll be well looked after.
Overall - a lovely stay and would not hesitate to stay here again if we were in this area.
Thanks for a lovely stay Jason and Ally.

About the host

Hello everyone I’m Ally and my partner is Jason in June 2019 we took over Deveron Valley Cottages. We are from South Wales and took the big leap from call centre to countryside in a life changing decision. We are loving it! Jason previously a Master Blacksmith for many years is enjoying the outdoor life as am I. We love this part of the country and having lived in the Brecon Beacons National Park feel quite at home. It’s been a big learning curve and we work hard to maintain the high standards we have achieved over the last three years. If we are not pottering around in the garden, you will probably find us out on our motorbikes exploring the gorgeous cost roads or painting, sculpting and generally working in or around the 13 acres that the cottages sit in. The change of lifestyle has really allowed us to pursue or hobbies whilst enjoying our work too. We look forward to seeing you at Deveron Valley Cottages and hope you love it as much as we do
Why they chose this property
Swallow cottage is a great bas for the explorer !! We are still discovering little gems ourselves, but at the moment our favourite places to see are Portsoy and the wonderful Portsoy Ice Cream Shop, Cullen with its many quirky antique shops, Sandend Beach where 'surfs up' even in the winter and dogs are allowed all year round, our local village Aberchirder (known locally as Foggie) has a wonderful family pub with a delicious home cooked menu most nights (it is advisable to book in advance) We are also on the 'Whiskey and Castle Trails' (nearest being Fyvie Castle and Glendronach Distillery). The fascinating Pictish standing stones and ancient stone circles seem to pop up everywhere and we have visited a few the Nearest being Rothiemay stone circle which is just a few miles away. A little further afield is the hauntingly beautiful and remote Cabrach Region where you can explore the reindeer park, ski school and visitor centre. About hours’ drive is the dramatic Dunottar castle, stunningly beautiful and closer to home Huntly Castle with its fascinating history. Do tell us if you find something interesting so we can go explore too! We are always adding to our personal recommendations on our Facebook page and website
What makes this property unique
This is our favourite cottage its light airy and spacious we have just added a comfy new sofa bed so it sleeps 7! Ideal if you have a big family, or if fancy a Christmas or new year away with everyone, it can be rented along with the cottage next door (Auchingoul Cottage) for such occasions. upstairs is tastefully decorated and has room to sit and read on the landing if you need that bit of quiet time.
