Fantastic location, Port Carling is the true hub of Muskoka & Amy’s Cottage is perfectly located.
Amy is a fantastic host & resolved all issues as quickly as possible. I would definitely stay again!!
Perfect for a 3 night summer getaway
We were lucky enough to discover this wonderful property when we were looking for a last-minute 3 day “getaway”. It was perfect for my girlfriend and I to relax in. Things we loved included: swimming off the dock, “boat watching” from the dock, a midnight soak in the hot tub, and watching the amazing sunset from the dock. As the town of Port Carling was easily accessible as well, we spent an afternoon that rain was forecasted for wandering through the shops (and found some great deals on summer clothing). Thanks again for your hopitality!
renovated, clean and cozy cottage.
The cottage was not too big, but it was fully renovated and very clean. The cottage view was awesome.
The owner was very nice and cooperative and responded to all communication very quickly.
We would definitely love to go to this place in future again.
Thank you very much for your review! It was a pleasure to have you stay, and what a great weekend for your group! The Fall colours were at their best, and the warm sun on the water must have been perfect.
We'd love to see you agai some time.
A cozy cottage in a great location
If you want to experience relaxed cottage life on a river, this is the place to come! The cottage has been totally renovated inside with modern and traditional cottage decor that is comfortable for adults, kids and pets. Outside, the large, level yard with freestanding fire pit is very private with beautiful rows of cedars and a generous grassy area extending along the shoreline for kids, or dogs, to play in. Having kayaks for an evening paddle along the river was fantastic. We also enjoyed watching the antique and pleasure boats go by and the Wenonah and the Peerless cruise boats. This is an excellent cottage and Amy, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. We plan to come back next summer.
It was a pleasure to host your group Patti, we'd be happy to have you back! I'm so glad the Wenonah went by during your stay; it's such a neat part of Muskoka life, and so fun to see that up close.
Will book here again!
Booked this cottage with a few friends. We all loved it. Great spot by the water. Perfect girlfriends weekend getaway. The kitchen had everything we needed. Can't wait to come back (hopefully when it's a little warmer so we can enjoy swimming in the lake). Easy to find and nice and clean. Loved it.
Thank you so much for your review. It was great to have you and your friends as our guests. This time of year certainly can be chilly, but is great for seeing the autumn colours, and enjoying some late season sun.
We'd love to have you back!
Ideal location for discovering all that Muskoka has to offer, cottage needs some upgrades
We visited during Canada Day, two parents and two teenage sons.
If you have your own boat, there is public access right across the river and the cottage has plenty of dock space. We don't have a boat, so we made extenstive use of the the kayaks and paddle boat at the cottage, and swam and fished in the river. Our teenage sons loved watching boats go by from the hot tub, making smores in the fire pit, and playing games in the yard.
Nearby, we enjoyed the water skiing show in Bala, hiking Huckleberry Trail, fireworks over Lake Rosseau, ride on the Peerless II to Lake Muskoka, Port Carling Farmers Market, ice cream at Moosekoka in Port Carling, and the Muskoka Lakes museum.
The kitchen was well-stocked and the BBQ was in great condition. There are plenty of stores to get food and drink nearby, so we were able to prepare almost all of our meals at home.
The cottage itself needs updating on the exterior. There grass was freshly cut, but there are a lot of trees and tall plants that made it difficult to have a clear view of the river from the yard. Once out on the dock the view was great. There were tons of seagulls on the deck and they made a huge mess. A hose would be helpful to help keep it clean.
Inside the cottage, there are several small rooms but the available space and furniture wasn't condusive to hanging out as a group of 4. The beds were extremely hard - all of us had difficulty sleeping. Also, there weren't any dressers or cupboards for storing clothing and supplies, and the master room is so small that we had to keep our bags in the bathroom. With a few small changes (new mattresses, added storage, maybe opening up two sitting rooms into one large sitting room) this cottage would be perfect.
Muskoka Lakes area is breathtakingly beautiful and there are tons of things to do, so overall we enjoyed our vacation. This cottage is located in the heart of it all.
Thank you for your review. We certainly do have the exterior slated for revival, and had hoped to have it completed by the start of our busy season. Unfortunately material delays have meant that we will have to wait until Fall to do so.
I'm sorry that you found the beds uncomfortable, especially seeing as most are in fact, brand new this year. It is always a challenge in a rental situation to decide between firm and soft beds, and please accept my apologies for selecting a mattress that is not suited to your sleeping style. I also prefer a more plush sleeping style, so I sleep on top of the comforter when we are there; my husband on the other hand has a bad back, and would be most uncomfortable after a night's sleep on a softer bed.
We have also noticed that the seagulls (as well as mallards, mergansers, terns, and a variety of water loving mammals) enjoy our dock as a resting spot. While the mess is unfortunate, we are also blessed to host such a diversity of wildlife almost literally on our doorstep. In light of this we do have an outdoor broom on site for exactly the purpose of tidying their (*ahem*) evidence. As you may have noticed, we attain to support environmental stewardship at our property, and while we do have a hose, I would hope that people do not opt to waste water in such and unnecessary manner.
I'm also surprised to hear that you found the view obscured as we have had the trees professionally limbed in May to optimize the view and privacy, while retaining the integrity of the shoreline.
Interestingly, when we set to renovating the interior we had originally discussed merging the twin bedroom with the living room to maximize living space and views, but felt the additional bedroom was more ideal for those who would wish to rent. We may still do this at some point in the future based upon our clientele, but as of now we want to maximize the potential for mixed parties to enjoy the property.
Again, thank you for your stay, and I'm thrilled to hear that you were able to get out and explore so much of our remarkable part of the planet.
