About this property
Unique gite, original beams, rural charm, pool.
Le Puit, one of three gites at Les Coindries, was once a cowshed transformed with original beams into a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area. The two bedrooms feature a period French double bed and a 120cm x 90cm double bed. The living space includes a sitting/dining/kitchen area with Internet access. The fully equipped kitchen has an electric oven, gas/electric hob, large fridge-freezer, coffee machine, and microwave. The gite's charm extends to a glass-covered original well and a front terrace with a table, chairs, and a BBQ overlooking the gardens and courtyard.
Please note that this is an open-plan gite with a dividing wall (not full height) between the two bedrooms.
For relaxation, guests can enjoy the swimming pool and sun terrace, or retreat to the tranquility of the 'secret garden' with a good book.
Les Coindries can be found 7km south of Richelieu - famous for its Cardinal of the same name the most powerful man in France during the reign of Louis XIII. The Cardinal spent his early life at the beautiful (though now partly ruined) Chateaux de Coussay and later building a magnificent palace and town of Richelieu. The great palace was later demolished, but the huge park remains including the moat and island on which the Cardinal first built the palace. The park is a wonderful place of a walk or bike ride at anytime of year. This little known citadel is an architectural jewel of France and can be reached in 10 minutes from Les Coindries.

About the host
Hosted by Robert and Claire Sheppard
In September 2016, we relocated from our home of more than 25 years in a bustling area of Kent to Les Coindries. This move marked a significant change for us, having raised our two sons in our previous long-term home. With backgrounds rooted in the construction industry, we also have experience in owning and operating children's daycare, after-school, and holiday clubs.
Why they chose this property
We were attracted to the enchanting region of France where Les Coindries is situated, captivated by its expansive landscapes, historic medieval cities, charming chateaux, and picturesque gardens—all conveniently accessible by a short drive. The tranquility, abundant wildlife, and the allure of numerous restaurants and vineyards contribute to our appreciation of this area. Embracing rural life, along with the warm hospitality of the local community, further enhances our affection for living at Les Coindries.
What makes this property unique
Le Puit is a spacious open-plan family gite, one of three gites and a cottage collectively forming Les Coindries. Nestled in a private walled garden, accessible via a tranquil lane and surrounded by expansive arable land, the stone buildings with their tiled roofs have undergone meticulous restoration and conversion, preserving the original oak beams and timbers.
The gite boasts its own patio and BBQ area, providing a delightful space to savour a glass of wine after a day exploring the serene and picturesque surroundings. The serene courtyard and garden create a haven for unwinding and escaping the demands of daily life. A sizeable gazebo seating area within the courtyard accommodates up to 14 people, offering an ideal spot for al-fresco dining.
The swimming pool, nestled within its own secluded walled area, is accessible to all Les Coindries guests. It features a changing room equipped with a fridge stocked with cold drinks and a coffee machine for guest convenience. Additional amenities include an outdoor solar shower, ample sun loungers, chairs, tables, and an assortment of pool and garden games and toys.
For guest convenience, there is a well-lit separate car park. The site welcomes both individual and group bookings, accommodating up to 14 people. Please be aware that Le Puit is designed as an open-plan space, and sound may travel between rooms.
