Beautiful old house, narrow stair wells, slightly sloping floors and gorgeous wooden beams. We loved it! Very special experience to stay in a building 500 years old.

The property was fun--it was like sleeping on a ship. Each part of the floor tilts a different direction because the building is ancient. An enjoyable experience. Location was great, within the city walls and easy walk to the minster. There is a karaoke bar across the street so we listened to the joyous, if not always tuneful, singing at night.

Great location, close to the Minster ans Shambles. Lots of space.Street noise at the front can be a bit loud as there are several pubs, however the loudest night was when England won a match at the World Cup, so might not be typical. The house is centuries old, and is amazing, but also be aware that means some steep steps and some slanting floors. The exposed wood beams are gorgeous and the whole place is steeped in history.

The property was as described, old and quirky Location was good with parking for GBP 25 per day close by. The one issue we have was the noise. With the current temperature in the UK we needed to open the windows as there were no fans. However if you leave the windows open the noise from passing vehicles and revealers is unbearable. Fans are essential.

Great spot in York

Great spot in York. Small old building, very vertical. Was walkable to town. Had everything we needed for 5 people. You have to find overnight parking but was within 5 minutes

Fantastic location and incredibly quirky, historic building. Let down by upkeep of the property. It was very dusty, the terrace was unusable due to dust from nearby renovations. Also the sitting area in the loft couldn't be used as the windows didn't open. Really appreciated the location, but won't be returning

Very cool old building, quirky but great. Getting the key was a bit of a pain, not sure why they can’t just key code the door.Biggest gripe was that I booked on VRBO and the the fine print was that the deposit was non refundable and they wanted the balance paid directly to them. Wasn’t a scam but I wouldn’t have booked had I known. There is also no soap shampoo or conditioner, you have to bring or buy your own. Great location. No AC but it was fine if you opened all the windows.

Beautiful historic property

I met with my 3 sisters for a short break in York. The apartment is lovely, it was very clean & I loved that it had a lit Christmas tree & some decorations when we arrived- it was so welcoming. It’s a short walk from the train station. It’s an easy walk to the Shambles, there are restaurants & pubs on the same street. It is on 3 levels, so lots of stairs.

Quirky and central

Wobbly floors, wonky stairs and all the other oddities you would expect in a medieval building. However it is also equipped with all the kit for modern day living. Loved it.

Perfect York experience

Amazing building. It maybe several centuries old, but it comes equipped with all mod cons. It is very central with an easy walk to The Shambles and Minster. You do need to be able bodied as there are 3 tight and steep staircaseses. Wheelwrights were excellent to communicate with especially considering time differences as we booked from Australia.

We like visiting York, but were a little disappointed because we couldn’t stay in the place that I am “writing a review about” we had to move elsewhere because of construction not the property owners fault, but disappointing nonetheless as from the pictures the place we were supposed to stay would’ve been better than the one we were in and it added 20 minutes each way to our walking and out of town.

Beautiful central York property.

87 Micklegate is a fantastic historic property. As such you have to cope with some inconveniences, the stairs are steep and the floors uneven in places. But the owners have made this as comfortable as possible. It was warm, the beds were good quality and really comfortable and the shower powerful with a sufficient hot water. The kitchen equipment was somewhat limited, but was OK to cook a stew or a breakfast. Would definitely go back

Terrific house, excellent location

The house is as great as the photos make it out to be-- An ancient house that is furnished with antique furniture and is absolutely charming. The kitchen has all basic cooking equipment and a few random ingredients for cooking. The heat, needed in winter, worked well and the house stayed nice and cozy. We were very happy to find that a Christmas tree was provided for us, so we did not need to acquire one. Wow! The beds are comfortable, and the showers and hot water all are great. The location of the house is within the ancient city walls and just a few minutes walk from the center of York. There are four or five pubs within a stones throw and a great bakery/cafe across the street. A convenience store is on the ground floor. Keep in mind that the stairs are narrow, and that none of the walls/floors are straight/true-- This may not be a good house for people that are not steady on their feet. I would highly recommend staying here.

Quirkiness in abundance!

The property has character by the bucket load! Very clean and tidy, the location is literally 5 minutes from the city centre, the only negative I’d say is we had our children (7 and 5) and they loved it especially the top floor lounge but I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a family property with younger children. Still a great place tho and would use again!
