About this property
Family Friendly Cottage Near Sandy Beaches
Dun Eistein is a traditional family house in the crofting village of Northton in South Harris. The house is not on a croft but there is a small garden with picnic table, chairs and bench.
Harris is an island of contrasts in the Outer Hebrides and boasts some wonderful beaches. Although named the Isle of Harris, it is in fact the southern part of Lewis and Harris. The northern part of Harris is hilly, the east is rocky with numerous lovely bays and the south west is flatter with many fine beaches. Northton is a good base from which to explore the island and from which to visit some of the other islands. The house is generally child friendly and games, books and dvds are available for your use. There is a small range of wellington boots (the sun doesn’t always shine!), buckets and spades in the porch.
Accommodation on the ground floor consists of a new, well equipped kitchen with electric range, washing machine, dishwasher, tumble drier, fridge freezer and microwave with dining room off. There is also a lounge, sitting room and shower room.
On the upper floor are two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, one bunk bedroom and bathroom. Extra single folding bed available. Beds have continental quilts and all bed linen and towels are provided.
Oil central heating, which is included in the cost as well as electricity, ensures a warm, comfortable home. There is no terrestrial TV reception but satellite is available. Wireless internet included. Dogs: As a result of extensive damage on two occasions, we are no longer able to accept dogs. Beaches: Harris is well known for its beautiful, sandy beaches one of which is in walking distance. Fishing: Obbe Fishings and Rodel Fishery are both nearby. Kilda Cruises: Day trips to St Kilda leave from Leverburgh. St. Kilda has Unesco Dual World Heritage status for natural and cultural importance. Harris Outdoor Adventure Centre: offers trips and tuition in Sea/surf kayaking, Sailing (open 25ft boat), Land yachting (beach sailing), Coasteering. Walking: Walks on Northton Machair, gentle strolls on the beach or more challenging hillwalking. Weaving: Find out about Harris Tweed and maybe see it being woven. (The house is looked after by Becca [See Taobh Tuath Tweeds] who is a weaver of Harris Tweed. If you’d like to find out more about Clò Mòr (The Big Cloth), she is just along the road and will give you plenty information.)

This accommodation worked well for 5 adults and 1 child. There was enough space for all and a well equipped kitchen. In addition there was a nice sitting out area in the garden.
Lovely wee property in a great location for exploring Harris and all it has to offer. Spacious enough for the teenager and the pre-teen to be separated and mum and dad to have some space to chill out! Lovely wee beach just at the end of the road and the host also manage to provide lovely sunny weather for us!

Good to hear everything was convenient for you and that you had perfect weather. Not sure how you managed that in this unseasonal summer!
Catherine’s property at Northton was fantastic and met all our groups requirements. A very enjoyable stay and Catherine answered all queries promptly. Hope to stay again.

I'm so pleased you had a great holiday - and that your ship sailed! Will look forward to seeing you again.
Excellent house in great location close to lesser known beaches, cafes and walks.
Also close to St Kilda trips.
Well equipped house - we were 8 adults of two generations - and plenty of space.
I had a really lovely week here and the host and neighbours were so friendly and welcoming. The cottage was lovely and cozy, and the bottle of wine, After 8's and biccies were a lovely welcoming touch. The scenery, both from the cottage and beyond is breath-taking. I hope to go back next year.
Location close to Leverburgh ideal for our overnight trip South. 2 living rooms were a bonus. The house was well equipped. We even had enough chairs for 11 people to eat together when our friends from another house in Stockinish joined us. It was nice to have beach towels available too

Glad you had a successful trip, Marion, and hope your journey back was uneventful.
Just returned from a fantastic holiday. Fantastic location for all the best beaches on South West Harris including several you can walk to. We especially enjoyed bbqs on the nearest beach and were blown away with second beach. Luskentyre and Seilebost were perfection and Becca gave great tips on staying safe on beaches and not attempting to walk between the two. Less than 10 mins to the shop in Leverburgh which had everything we needed and the staff were lovely. Regarding the house we found it to be a home from home. It’s not modern but very clean and the pictures don’t do it justice as it’s so much bigger with space for all. Kitchen is well stocked with lots of basics and brilliant cooker. Also outside when it’s sunny there is a wonderful stone built seating area with built in table that we really enjoyed and plenty of space for a van and car on the drive and to dry washing and hang wetsuits etc. The last thing to say is how safe the neighbourhood and all of Harris was and the local people were very welcoming. 5 stars from all of us

Thank you for your kind words and for being great guests. I'm so pleased you had a great holiday and that everything worked out well for you.
Everything you need in a basic accommodation for exploring Lewis and Harris. Plenty of space, comfortable beds and a washing machine. Would return.
Thank you to Catherine.
A lovely comfortable house in a super location for beaches, hill walking and visiting. The welcome received was first class with wine and chocolates. The house is perfect for a family holiday.
The home is in a lovely village within easy walk of the Temple cafe, Croft 36 and the genealogy centre . You can also walk from there across the machair to lovely beaches. The property has a homely feel to it which made it a very relaxing spot for the week for us. Many thanks

Thank you for your kind response. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and the places round about.
Excellent week exploring the area. We particularly enjoyed being able to walk to the beach (in all weathers) and up Ceapabhal at the end of the road. Good corncrakes too. Spacious and comfortable house. Thanks, Catherine
We were a party of 4 adults and 4 under 7s. The house was a great size and layout for us all. The wine and chocolates were very a very welcome surprise on our arrival. Communication with Catherine was 5* right from the start. She kindly arranged a highchair and stair gate when we enquired about them. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting to visit Harris.
