About this property
A fav for 30+ days, wedding guests, hiking, biking, river, FUN! Kids too!
The August Country House is a mile from the city limits and away from the bustle of downtown Hood River. The neighborhood is scattered light industrial and the homesite is surrounded by mature Douglas Fir trees creating a country garden oasis. Nearby is the majestic Columbia River Gorge, with renowned wind sports, hiking, wineries , micro and cider breweries, mountain biking, skiing, golfing, kayaking, SUPing, a very good pumptrack, and more. Truly a Northwest Playground!!
This 1928 3500 sq ft Craftsman Bungalow home is simply elegant and offers guests a relaxing and wholesome stay. Beautiful hardwood floors, lots of natural light, and little clutter add to the ambience and are reminders to settle down and enjoy your stay.
On the main floor, you will find a full, equipped kitchen, spacious dining room with coffee and tea bar and a living room with ample seating providing a beautiful view of Mt. Hood. It's not uncommon to see quail or pheasant walking through the grounds during meal time. The front porch is the place to sit and watch the mountain or read a book or just take a nap. This place will slow you down.
One queen and one twin bedroom are on the main floor, along with a full bath and an additional sitting room. A great place for a cup of coffee and the morning sunshine. Upstairs are two queen bedrooms plus a room with two twin beds. The second full bathroom is on this floor and we do provide quality bed and bath linens, hair dryer, soaps, shampoo and conditioner.
There is an outdoor deck furnished with table and chairs and barbecue grill. The laundry room is off the kitchen with washer and dryer. An outside clothes line is also available. There is ample room for storage of your recreational equipment and parking for four vehicles.
The house is sited on two acres with well-cared gardens and lawn and has plenty of nooks for lounging opportunities and outdoor fun. We also have a cottage and barn onsite that provide other guest and owner accommodations and work spaces and ARE NOT included as part of this VRBO listing. Please respect these surrounding areas and other guests privacy.
The August Country House welcomes you to see the Gorge! Enjoy!
Things to Do:
Mt. Hood Meadows, a winter ski resort, is about 35 minutes south and the historical Timberline Lodge with year-round glacier skiing is a 1-hour drive. Lost Lake and Timothy Lake are also within an hour's drive. Cycling the Old Highway 30 to The Dalles is 5 minutes away. There are numerous spectacular, scenic routes for road biking and Post Canyon (a 5-10 minute drive) has mountain biking trails for all ages. White water rafting and kayaking is available on the Hood River, White Salmon River (20-minute drive) and the Deschutes River (60 minutes).
