About this property
Unique, tranquil retreat in fabulous grounds with own garden & pond. Nr Goodwood
Come for a lovely stay at The Shepherd's Hut @ Chichester Cottage! A peaceful escape to the country awaits you at our unique and restful retreat, nestled in the quiet beauty of rural West Ashling, 5 miles west of Chichester, at the foot of the South Downs. The hut sits in the tranquil grounds of the 16th century, Graingers Farm and looks out over the Sussex Stone Circle, fields of horses and nature - with its own private garden and pond. A truly wonderful place to get right away from it all.
Our bespoke Shepherd’s Hut was hand-crafted locally to a wonderfully high finish. Climbing up the wooden stairs, step into a delightful and cosy getaway with all the comforts of home. At one end, there is a built-in sofa for relaxing which transforms into a very comfy double bed at night. Duvets and pillows are tucked away in drawers below and fresh linen and towels are provided!
The hut has recently been refurbished (Oct 2023 - pics coming soon) All the floors have been beautifully refinished and oiled. The well-equipped kitchenette now boasts a new oak top and larger prep area with a small stove top and additional storage. There’s a fridge, microwave, hob, toaster and kettle, plus all you might need to cook a delicious dinner. A pull-out dining table makes eating indoors fun and easy. At the other end, there is a fresh and bright bathroom with a basin, shower and toilet, plus a heated towel rail. The hut itself is heated, keeping you warm and cosy on those chilly evenings.
Outside - Step outside with morning coffee by the pond in the peace and quiet of your own garden. Enjoy a glass of wine in the evening or a barbecue alfresco with the backdrop of the South Downs.
All this and so much more awaits. We look forward to welcoming you soon!

About the host
Hosted by Grace Lawson-Baker

The Shepherd's Hut @ Chichester Cottage (our other holiday let) is owned by Grace Lawson-Baker – an Equine-Facilitated Human Development Practitioner and Speech and Language Therapist. She shared the property for many years with her late husband, Neil Lawson-Baker – a dental surgeon, sculptor and artist, who sadly died in October 2022.
They are only the third family to own the Graingers property since 1572. The last member of the Graingers family, Jessie Sparkes, died here at the age of 109, in 1981.
“I am very happy to share this special getaway with you and hope you will have a wonderful time in the surroundings Neil and I created, whilst taking in all that glorious Sussex has to offer.”
Grace Lawson-Baker.
