Honeymoon cottage is a lovely little cabin. Having been touring New England for 3 weeks we wanted a place to just relax for a few days. Well this place fitted the bill perfectly. It is very comfortable, the weather was just staring to get a bit cooler but with the log fire and the heating it was very cosy. Easy check in and everything you could need.

As this represents our second stay at the Honeymoon Cottage we are already talking another trip to Winhall. Needless to say we enjoy the rustic appeal and location, with close proximity to the AT and Vermont’s Long Trail; close enough to Manchester for dinner; or tours of the Orvis fly rod factory, American Fly Fishing Museum or Hildene

Honeymoon Cottage

What a wonderful place to stay! My boyfriend and I too advantage of the beautiful deck and had coffee and dinner on it every day. We also used the charcoal grill to cook dinner and the wood stove outside, for a beautiful outside dining expereince! We would love to come back again!

I was very impressed on how cute this little cottage was. It was very peaceful and private. The place has everything you need. The road is too close for my liking. You could hear the cars going by which was a bummer. Visited some waterfalls near by which were awesome. Bring a suit if it's hot. Pond was low due to much needed rain so we didn't fish. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay.

Perfect weekend get away

Love everything about this home. Perfect location to feel away from it all but close to stores, restaurants and activities. Bromley ski right down the road which my husband enjoyed while I worked part of one day. WiFi access was great. Our second time here and there will be more.

Very Cozy

We absolutely loved our stay in the Honeymoon Cottage! Place was well stocked and clean. We loved the location, very private and close to the Appalachian Long Trail, which we enjoyed hiking. Location is close to Manchester for shopping, groceries and dining. Would happily return. Thank you for a lovely few romantic days.

Beautiful, cozy cottage

We had an incredible weekend at the honeymooners cottage. The home was exactly as pictured and we were so fortunate with gorgeous fall weather. It was the perfect place a couple’s getaway and super close to two different ski areas. We will absolutely be coming back during ski season!

Nice little getaway

Really enjoyed this cabin in the woods. Barn boards and beams throughout, fieldstone fireplaces, and custom handmade furniture and cabinetry gives it a comfy rustic feel. We found it to be clean and well kept. Long private driveway with a path at the end that connects to the Long Trail if you ducking under a few branches. We wish we had more than just 2 nights to spend here.

Always Great at Honeymoon Cottage

We love this place! While we worried about the incredible heat wave, the property manager had a window AC installed upstairs. It worked great. It was 84 degrees outside. The lower level was very cool and did not need ac at all. Highly recommended!

Disliked: Location
We were initially thrilled upon arrival, as the cabin is rustic, cozy, and at the end of a long driveway— all things we would normally enjoy. It quickly became apparent that the road noise was quite loud though, and for a light sleeper like myself, that was a problem. We both love a fireplace, but the smell of woodsmoke in the cabin was very strong, so people with allergies or breathing problems should be aware. My husband is one of those people and was stuffed up throughout our stay. When we went to put our clothes in the dresser, we found that it, and the dryer, were full of sheets and towels (some not fully dry). And the shower handle, which the house instructions stated was “a little stiff”, was impossible for me to turn on. If my husband had not been with me I’d have had to do without a shower! Finally, there is a beautiful spiral log staircase going downstairs, but no handrail. We both are quite fit but were not comfortable going up or down. The Manchester area is gorgeous and we did a lot of great hiking and eating. And we both believe that this little gem of a cottage could be a perfect spot if given a little upgrade ( sound reducing glass on the windows especially the bedroom? a handrail on the stairway? Better air ventilation between guests? Fix the shower handle and broken screen in the sliding door))

Average stay but didnt have wifi

The property looks great. Little dust on everything but not a huge problem, its a cabin afterall. Only thing that bugged me is the property is listed as having internet connection but we couldn't access any usable internet during our stay which made working from the location easier.

Lovely cottage met our needs, July 2022

This lovely cottage met our needs. It's well build & tastefully decorated, fully supporting cooking. It's mostly as described although one can't see the pond from the cottage because of vegetation. We're glad we took a large fan to supplement one in the living area since it was 90 degrees there at 6 pm when we arrived. Downstairs was cooler, but still quite warm. The huge west facing windows provided great sunsets, but would benefit from curtains to reduce the heat. We saw the pond as shown in one of the pics by walking to the boats & dam area. If you do so, use tick spray because the weeds & bushes brushed my legs up to the thigh even though I was careful. The bed would benefit from a new mattress. The spacious bath was lovely.

Marvelous hand-built cabin at the end of a dirt road

The pictures accurately reflect the cabin - much of it and its furnishings hand-made. A well stocked kitchen and many creature comfort considerations. The two fans helped diminish the effects of the hot and humid weather, but it still got fairly uncomfortable late in the afternoon. A listing of channels for the Dish network would have helped as would the addition of NESN to watch the Red Sox in the summer and the Bruins in the winter. Internet speed was a problem. It never surpassed 1.4 Mbps, which is not really sufficient for streaming video (like watching the Red Sox). At home, I get anywhere from 15 to 60 Mbps.

Cute cabin with some drawbacks

The cabin is cozy and the property is lush and surrounded by a pond with a nice view from the deck. The owners were very nice and easy to communicate with when we couldn’t find the check in information. The main issues we had were the front lights were burned out so it was pitch dark when we were trying to get into the cabin only to find that the lights inside at the entrance of the cabin were also burned out— glad we brought a flashlight. There is no soap or shampoo provided in the cabin for guests— basic amenities should be provided, especially for the price point. We also were surprised at how extensive the check out tasks are. You have to separate recycling, compost, and garbage, and take out all the trash, strip the bed, and wash AND dry all of the towels before you leave. For the already high price of the cabin and especially for the high cleaning fee added on to the total charge, this seems like a lot to ask guests to do. I have never had to do so much check out house work before at a VRBO. With all this said, we enjoyed our 2 nights there, but I was happy we only had 2 nights. We were also looking at things with a bit more of a critical eye than usual since we were actually on our honeymoon and stretched our budget to stay at the cabin. Overall, 70 percent positive and 30 percent quirky, cobwebs, no amenities, lack of lighting, some highway sounds, and too much check out work. Main point is— for the price, it was not what we expected.

Good But Not Perfect

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the cabin and found the photos and description to be accurate. However, there are a few issues to note. Most seriously, the owner needs to address the staircase leading to the lower level. There is no railing or hand hold and the surface of each of the stairs is very smooth. My wife slipped and fell on the first day and could have been seriously injured. Fortunately she wasn't, but at the very least the owner should add some sort of rubberized tread to each stair to improve traction. Also, the cabin is located at the end of an unpaved, unlit road which can be difficult to locate after dark when you're approaching on Rt. 11 from the direction of Manchester. Some additional lighting or signage would be helpful here. There was plenty of wood for the fireplace but no firestarter or kindling. I ended up buying some firestarter from the local Aubuchon and left most of it behind as we don't have a fireplace at home. Finally, we got about 8" inches of snow on our last day and needed to be plowed out. We were unable to reach the caretaker and so called the plow company directly. They arrived in a reasonable time but I really feel this is the sort of thing the caretaker should have handled. In summary, my wife and I had a pleasant stay but wouldn't be inclined to repeat unless the staircase issue is corrected.
