Farmhouse, lovingly restored, surrounded by green countryside of Calatafimi
Escape the coast, head for the hills, keep an eye out for the Greek temple of Segesta. Then you reach a pot-holed road that buckles through vineyards, citrus groves, olive groves and rough fields where sheep graze with their ringing bells; this is an ancient landscape.
Our lovingly restored farmhouse has been in the family for generations and is nestled in the heart of Trapani’s rural hillside, in Western Sicily.
It’s surrounded by 4 hectares of land partly dedicated to the cultivation of fruits such as citrus, olives, figs, prickly pears, plums, persimmons, medlars and many more as well as roses and tropical plants. The rest of the land is left untouched: olive and almond trees grow on the rolling gypsum rocks that emerge from the sloping ground.
A car is necessary! We are 3 km from the friendly town of Calatafimi, and enjoy the privilege of a private and secluded position, as well as being located near several centres of cultural and natural interest. The Greek temples of Segesta and Selinunte, Palermo, Trapani, the medieval town of Erice, the remains of Phoenician Mozia, the dancing Satyr in Mazara del Vallo, Marsala and the famous Arab-Norman mosaics of Monreale are all within a 1 hour drive.
Calatafimi is very good for stocking up on local delicacies and offers a choice of butchers, bakers, green grocers and pasticcerie as well as small supermarkets. The area produces excellent wines and cheeses.
The farmhouse is arranged over two floors and has 5 double bedrooms in total. On the ground floor there are 3 double bedrooms, 2 of which have en-suite bathrooms; 1 separate bathroom; a fully equipped kitchen; a large living room with dining table, which seats 12, and a fireplace; a TV room and a study. On the second floor there are 2 double bedrooms, 1 with an en-suite bathroom and 1 with a bathroom attached to it; a small but well equipped kitchen with a small panoramic terrace; a large living/dining room with fireplace and balconies. If preferred, the second floor can be completely independent from the ground floor as it has also its own entrance. On the ground floor is a large terrace with a pergola and an outdoor kitchen. The infinity pool, which measures 14m x 4m, is about 30m from the house and is surrounded by large a solarium furnished with sun beds, tables chairs, recliners and a gazebo to provide shade.
Children of all ages are welcome but will need to be supervised at all times. The property has a lily pond and a swimming pool, which are not fenced off, and the land in places is steep and rocky.
We hope that you will enjoy picking the farms fruit and vegetables and exploring the land and garden where you might be joined by our friendly family dogs who live up the hill and have been known to stroll down to say hello. And finally we hope that you won’t mind feeding our cats: don’t worry they live outside on the land and are very reserved.
To prepare yourselves for your visit, you might enjoy reading "Calatafimi: behind the Stone Walls of a Sicilian Town", written by Angus Campbell, a local Englishman and historian who loved the area and its people.

We had a lovely stay in the villa near Calatafimi. The villa is quite large with plenty of sleeping arrangements to accommodate a large group. Everything was well kept and very clean! Our host was very nice throughout the process and very gracious during our stay! Highly recommended!
Fantastic place, but a difficult road coming there, the last few kilometers where in a poor condition

Superb accommodation and ideal location!
We arrived in the town of Calatafimi parked the car and visited one of the local supermarkets then called Caterina to tell her we where on our way to the farmhouse - but no, she insisted she and her daughter would come and meet us and they did.
The road out of Calatafimi to the property is variable but driveable especially with a reasonably sized car (we had a Toyota Yaris automatic). Caterina's instructions on how to reach the farmhouse are both explicit and accurate.
The farmhouse, it's location and it's outlook are all a pleasure to behold.
We rented for 2 weeks - the 1st week, we had family and friends in total 8 persons in 5 rooms; the 2nd week we had friends from our village in Scotland in total 10 persons in 5 rooms. We were all adults and the farmhouse did offer seclusion for anyone who required it.
We swam in the swimming pool every day and also had the quietness of the garden early in the morning and late at night (although the frogs had their moments in relation to noise!).
The farmhouse is equipped with all the necessary facilities and more. Caterina arranged twice during the 2 weeks for friends to come to the farmhouse and cook a Sicilian meal ...this was appreciated by all!
The cats were for ever present and the dogs "enquired" but were easy discouraged to do so if necessary.
The farmhouse was ideal for exploring the western areas of Sicily and beyond ..... or for just chilling out!
There is a winery just along from the farmhouse which we did not manage to visit however the wines we did receive through Caterina were excellent!
Everyone we met were friendly and helpful.
This was our first visit to Sicily but it certainly will not be our last!
Our Christmas Week in Caterina's Farmhouse was a pleasure! The large house was perfect for the 10 adults in our family. We immediately felt like it was a family house, visited when Caterina's children returned to the countryside to enjoy the long views and the lovely pool. Family heirlooms were everywhere, artifacts and paintings adorn the walls, desks and cupboards. A hidden library with a loft holds a season of books and maps. The spacious living room with three sofas surrounded the fireplace which we used each evening. The room also had a dining table for our evening meals. The Kitchen was so well supplied with everything we would have possibly needed. Navigating through the house up and down winding stairs gave us sense of privacy. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and well supplied. The outdoor space had an outdoor kitchen, patio covered with a large trumpet vine and views of the countryside. The trees were filled with oranges and limes when we were there. It was beautiful!!
We had a lovely stay at Caterina’s stunning house. Lovely outdoor seating areas meant we spent most of our time outside. Very well equipped inside. Brilliant to have kids dvds for some chill out time.
A highlight to our stay was having a birthday meal cooked by Guissepina and later in the stay she came and did a cookery class.
Thank you Caterina for being a great host. Easy to communicate with whenever required.

Beautiful country house a few Ks from Calatafimi town.
Beautiful house & surrounding countryside. Perfectly equiped house & productive kitchen garden. We were an extended family of 8 including 3 children 9,11 &13.
We had a few problems with water & owners dogs but issues were dealt with promptly.
The dogs are friendly but our slender 9 year old struggled to cope with their boisterous behavior. There are 2 outside cats as well but the person with cat allergy was o.k.
Overall a very special place to stay.
