Traditional Madeiran Quinta on Banana Farm, Large Modern Patio & Heated Pool, AL

Our traditional Quinta is set in the charming village of Arco da Calheta, the warmest, sunniest part of the beautiful island of Madeira, with sea and mountain views. It's a characterful stone Quinta with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, on a small banana farm with a beautiful tropical garden, five minutes from Calheta beach and thirty minutes from Funchal. Sympathetically modernized and retaining the original character, creating a stunning mix of traditional quirky Madeiran with the addition of a sun-drenched large patio/entertaining area with heated pool, outside kitchen with barbecue and gas hob. The original features of the old house remain, including exposed stone walls, beams, wooden floors, casement windows and the original bread oven in the kitchen; the Quinta has all mod cons, Wi-Fi in all rooms and on the patio. A new addition in 2023 , upstairs there is a spacious master en-suite double bedroom, with its own annex/study, both of which open onto a patio balcony with fabulous garden, hills and sea views.. On the ground floor is an en-suite double bedroom, which opens onto the patio and pool; there is also a twin bedroom which can be made into a double, and a family bathroom with bath and overhead shower.
The large, modern patio area is the perfect entertaining or relaxing, area with a covered porch, Locally handmade chestnut dining table and loungers for sunbathing. Surrounded by a high, curved traditional volcanic stone wall the patio and tropical gardens have views of the sea and the hills all around. A lush mix of tropical palms, hibiscus, geraniums, hydrangea and cool lawns make up the pretty garden. There are other fruit trees and when available a complimentary basket of seasonal fruit is provided on arrival together with some other local gifts. Facilities include WiFi in all rooms, and TV/DVD with a selection of English-speaking films, a wood burner in the sitting room for winter evenings. The pool has a solar cover; optional pool heating in cooler months is charged at €90 per week. The price shown is for two guests, extra guests are charged a seasonal nightly rate. There are steps into the garden and house plus stairs within the house and from the gated parking area making it unsuitable for small children and anyone with mobility issues. There are also some low thresholds between the bedrooms, kitchen and sunroom. This is all part of the character of an old house; taller guests are advised to duck or grouse! The Quinta is afamily affair, a lovely local family help us run it. Rosa is our wonderful housekeeper and her daughter Susana and her husband Marcio, who both speak perfect English, are on hand to meet guests and help out. Jose, who looks after the pool and house maintenance, also speaks English, and Rafael tends the garden.
