Drying House - sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

The interior of the Drying Barn is charming, with its bright yet calming bedrooms and spacious upper floor where guests can socialise across the open-plan dining-living area and kitchen or close the kitchen off if preferred. To the front of the Drying House is a large, gravelled parking area with decking and lots of floral garden pots. Car access is via Worcester Road, while guests can take a short public footpath from the parking area to emerge on the High Street close to the famous Feathers Hotel. Though there isn't a set outside seating area for the Drying House, please ask the caretakers if you would like to sit outside and they will do their best to accommodate you.Ground Floor

A wonderful place to stay. Thoroughly restored now.
After an exhausting year we were ready for a break. The Drying House was a wonderful surprise. Very clean and comfortable with the joys of 2 bathrooms. The bed was incredible and we slept like the proverbial logs. Just a couple of minutes from the lovely Ledbury town centre but completely quiet and hidden away. The kitchen was very well equipped and the first place we have ever stayed in where the kitchen knives were actually usable. There are lots of leaflets available to browse when planning days out, which was very helpful and we did the walk to Frith Wood walk which we would definitely recommend. We walked through to the busy Worcester Road one evening and were delighted to hear a couple of owls hooting to each other. How wonderful in a town. This is a fabulous, clean and comfortable property which gives you a big hug when you step inside. We would thoroughly recommend to everyone and are looking forward to our next stay.

A very comfortable and spotlessly clean upside down house
We really enjoyed staying here and the cleanliness and comfort of the house need a special mention. The living areas and bedrooms were very comfortable and tastefully decorated; the kitchen was very well equipped and the upstairs living/eating areas were very bright. The sofa and carpets seemed almost new and we felt very relaxed while we were here. I rarely feel holiday homes are clean enough to walk around barefooted but here, this was never a problem - everywhere was absolutely spotless and gleaming. We only booked this property on the day of travel and found the staff at Bolthole Retreats to be very helpful; in the same way, as soon as we arrived someone assured us she was on hand if we needed her for anything. We only ate out one night, at Satara; this good Indian restaurant is a mere two minutes walk away from the house and was recommended to us by the very friendly customers at The Prince of Wales. It is in a great position to gain access to the Malvern Hills (buses leave from around 2 minutes away to go to Colwall to begin a walk and return from Great Malvern) where we had a wonderful long walk right across the ridge. We took bikes but travelled by car to Leominster to begin a ride along the Black and White Trail - this 27 mile route was fabulous (apart from the final rather busy stretch back into Leominster). The house is tucked away from passing traffic but this does seem to be somewhat of a blight on the town of Ledbury itself; the high street is particularly loud and busy with a high volume of cars passing through. A couple of things in the house are perhaps becoming due for an upgrade; there are signs of old sealant in the bathrooms and the kitchen wooden cladding is looking a touch shabby but this would not in any way prevent us from visiting again.

Satisfactory but not perfect.
Well appointed and clean property in centre of Ledbury convenient for all local facilities and surrounding area. Upside down room arrangement would not suit everyone. Limited car parking with only would available space was an inconvenience.

Beautiful Holiday Home
This is our second visit to the Drying House. Again the house was spotless and very warm and comfortable. We were welcomed by a super friendly couple who helped us with parking etc. Everything we needed was in the house, a wonderfully equipped kitchen with everything you need and some cleaning items. Very comfortable beds, with crisp white bedding and soft towels. Bathrooms are snug but have wonderful showers! Heating was superb and easily turned up or down with plenty of red hot water. We loved every minute of our stay and Ledbury has everything from top end hotels to a very good fish and chip shop. If we are lucky enough to be able to reserve again we will return Thank you.

What makes this property unique

The Drying House is a spacious, two-bedroom, two-bathroom, red brick and timber property in the heart of historic Ledbury. The exposed beams in the open-plan living area tell the tale of the property's past – a drying barn for the hops used by local brewers. The two story, ‘upside down' cottage has the bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor and the open plan living-dining area and kitchen upstairs.

The Drying House can be rented with the adjacent Barn (sleeps 4), to accommodate 8 guests in total.
