Grade 1 listed Medieval Hall House near the Devon and Cornwall border
Cullacott is a Grade 1 listed medieval Hall House situated in peaceful countryside near the Devon and Cornwall border on a small working farm, which has been in the family for 5 generations, and commands splendid panoramic views over the Ottery Valley. The restoration of the property jointly won the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors' National Building Conservation award for best restored house. Its sensitive restoration has ensured the house has preserved its basic simplicity and yet great care has been taken to provide every comfort for the visitor. The house can be booked as a whole property, accommodating groups of 10-12 people, but it has also been divided into two self-contained units, the Longhouse and the Tudor Wing, both with entrances onto the cobbled courtyard and with a large garden and sunny terrace overlooking the fields running down to the river. The Long House sleeps 6-7 people and contains the medieval great hall for dining, a snug parlour and low beamed kitchen. One quirky staircase leads up from the parlour where you find the bathroom, shower room with toilet and the twin bedroom. The second staircase leads up from the passageway to the main bedroom and also to the west wing bedroom which looks out over the garden. The Tudor Wing sleeps 4-5 people in two large airy oak floored bedrooms reached by a slate turret staircase, with it's original studded door. The twin bedroom has a modern ensuite shower room and toilet cleverly disguised within it. The beautiful large parlour downstairs has a big open fireplace and even a harmonium to play. The bathroom is also downstairs, as is the craftsman built kitchen with its warm quarry tiled floor. The photographs show both The Long House and Tudor Wing and are captioned accordingly.

A wonderfully historic house with an equally wonderful garden, location and views. So very peaceful. Only a quick drive to Launceston for provisions. Everyone said their beds were comfortable. Lots of games for the garden and indoor board games for family fun. It was hard to drag ourselves away to go enjoy all the fun things to do in the area. The owner provided a very comprehensive list.
Quite superb Grade 1 Listed Medieval Hall House, truly exceptional, hardly a right angle, level floor or vertical wall anywhere, expertly restored. Outstandingly well-provided and comfortable. Excellent for children - every conceivable nook for hide and seek, good sized garden, lots of games provided. Faultless. Do not book if you do not appreciate history, quietude, remoteness, and if you want your life filled with modern gadgets.
An amazing property to stay at, we are returning visitors and loved it.
Realty loved the place and experience.
Vrbo we’re aweful to deal with and did not resolve issues with attempted payments for the holiday. The pay system did not work and called multiple times to resolve . Transferred to another country and there was a definite huge language barrier as well as terrible line.
Recommend going direct to the owner if possible.
Just returned from a great 2 week stay at this property. Amazing house, large garden surrounded by peace and quiet and "country sounds". Owners were friendly, helpful and nothing too much trouble. We were greeted on arrival with a tasty plate of home made scones, cream and jam .... Mary is a great cook.
The children fell in love with the family cows and fed them each day, coming to the field gate when called. Each one now named according to personality. Fun in the river a short walk away is also recommended.
We all hope to return one day!
Absolutely beautiful location. A little off the beaten track, but was absolutely perfect for our multi generation get together. We had a wonderful stay in your amazing house. We look forward to coming again.
We were a mixed family group with babies and oldies. The property was magical due to its history and comfortable due to it’s spaciousness and charm. The owners were welcoming and helpful. We couldn’t ask for more. But watch your heads on low lintels!
