Mljet is the southernmost and easternmost of the larger Adriatic Islands of Dalmatia. It is the greenest Island with Mediterranean vegetation, a clear and clean sea, and a gentle sandy shoreline. National Park spreads on the western side of the Island (for over 54km2) and offers shady walking or cycling tracks, ancient ruins, and saltwater lakes. Entrances to NP Mljet is in Polače and Pomena. The main places are Pomena, Polače, and Sobra and in those places, you may find supermarkets, ATMs, restaurants, travel agencies, souvenir shops, etc... Island is regularly connected with Dubrovnik with a ferry from Dubrovnik or Korčula as well as a car ferry connection with Pelješac Peninsula on the Croatian mainland. Polace is very popular among sailors and yachtsmen to do their anchorage there due to its sheltered position. It has a couple of restaurants and cafes, as well as a shop for basic provisions. There are also several places where guests can rent bicycles and scooters. You can choose between several restaurants to enjoy domestic Mediterranean cuisine or to relax on the beach. The village has a number of ancient ruins dating from the 1st to the 6th centuries. Greatest significance is the Roman palace hence the name “Polace” from the 5th century whose walls dominate the village. This is one of the largest buildings in Dalmatia from the Roman period.

Glorious residence!
Simple apartment in great location; lovely views, lots of restaurants, bike hire and a supermarket close by. Air conditioning only in the main living area, so bedrooms were hot. Pillows a bit uncomfortable. Lots of steps to get to the apartment, but that made the views good once you were there.

Special place!
The apartment in Polace on the island of Mljet was great. It had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a couch that was spacious and comfortable, so our 12-year old preferred to sleep on it. The balcony had a wonderful view of the sea, this was a special treat: it was large, so the four of us could have coffee in the morning, eat and chill in the evenings. One of the bedrooms has a fantastic view of the bay. You can access the balcony either from the living room or bedroom. The a/c is strong enough and cools the enitre apartment.
It takes 20 minutes from the apartment to walk to the Large Lake, the electric train, and numerous little beaches along the lake. If one does not feel like walking, bikes can be rented. Several rental places are 5 minutes from the apartment.
All in all, the family taking care of the apartments is wonderful, the village is peaceful, there are restaurants, and the local beach is almost empty, which I have never seen before in Croatia at the end of July.

Special place!

Admirable and clean accommodation!
We enjoyed our stay in Polace. The flat was very nice, and the view from the balcony was beautiful. The village is small but there is a small shop where you can buy essentials. We ate in the restaurant which was associated with the property. The service was very friendly and the food was good.

Extraordinary journey!
