About the host
Hosted by Rebecca smith
I’ve lived in Southwell over 25 years and would be happy to answer any questions you may have from eating out locally to where Robin Hood used to hang out! It’s a pleasure welcoming guests from all over the world to stay in Southwell. I hope you enjoy your time here with us. I’ve loved travelling and meeting people from around the world working for an airline for ten years - between us we can communicate in over six different languages including sign language. Your happiness is our priority whilst you’re a guest at Lavender Cottage so please let us know if there’s anything you need
Why they chose this property
Southwell is a unique market town described as the jewel of Nottinghamshire’s crown. King Charles I spent his last night of freedom here and the area is steeped in history. The magnificent Cathedral dates back to the 12th Century and the National Trusts Workhouse is the most complete building of its kind in the UK. With spectacular countryside walks, a thriving high street of independent shops Southwell has its own Race Course, Robin Hood’s Hideout 🌳 and even its own Apple named after it! There are many excellent National Trust houses locally including The Workhouse in Southwell; a fascinating story of the lives of the most vulnerable in the past and contemplates if we’ve addressed those problems enough…
Nottingham and Newark are a short drive away and give further options for dining, theatre, ice skating, horse riding, climbing, dancing, cinema and pubs and clubs.
You won’t be short of things to do if you’re a nature lover and want to discover the forests and woodlands locally. You can even zip wire through the trees at Sherwood Pines after you’ve seen The Major Oak and caught up with Robin Hood. Just let us know what you like to do and we’ll happily recommend some days out or places to visit
