About this property
A rural retreat. Great for family holidays and get-togethers.
1 The Green is a delightful 4 bed-roomed holiday cottage in the village of Muston in the Vale of Belvoir (pronounced “Beever”).
This house is a favourite with dog walkers, families and for family reunions and weddings. It is cosy in the winter and peaceful in the summer. Many guests are returners.
The house is actually two farm cottages joined together to make a family house of four bedrooms with gas central heating. The house is newly restored in a sympathetic style using natural ecological paint, and is furnished with antique pieces to suit the house. There is an ample supply of glassware, china and linen. There is a large kitchen with electric stove, microwave oven, fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble drier; a large sitting- room with television and open fire and an elegant separate dining- room/study.
There are two double bedrooms with double beds and two single bedrooms. There is a bathroom, shower room and a downstairs cloakroom. Outside there is a large front lawn, and at the rear a patio garden. A small conservatory serves as a store for bicycles, walking gear and garden furniture.

Our family of six had a wonderful stay in this delightful cottage! The cottage is so well equipped and lacks nothing. Lynn, our host, was very attentive and detailed. We can definitely recommend a stay here.
The house was a great location for a family birthday. We particularly loved that there was a pub 15 minutes walk away which served all you can eat breakfast which was a great birthday treat without needing to cook.
We stayed at this property in November 2025. The house was warm and welcoming for our family reunion. The kitchen was about the best equipped of any holiday property I have used and makes such a difference. The lounge was comfortable, as were the bedrooms. As we brought our dog we were pleased that the gardens were secure. All in all, it was the perfect place for us and we would consider using it again.
A wonderful little cottage in a gorgeous setting.Snug for 6 adults but manageable, and everything as it should be.Will hopefully be returning next year for the same event!

I want to leave an honest balanced review. The house is in a lovely area for walks and to drive to some nice villages / attractions. The owner let us check in an hour earlier so we could drop off some groceries which was much appreciated. The cleaners were not there so it was ready for us anyway. The house itself is quite dated and still has a lot of things/ ornaments there belonging to its owners (current owner’s late parents) which we are asked to not touch. The furniture is a bit wobbly. Some things need fixing like loose door/ cupboard handles. Kitchen is well stocked but we had to wash everything before using. The shower was blocked and as the owner lives a long way away and it was a BH weekend so plumber not available, my husband had to spend time cleaning it after fashioning a plunger with whatever was available! The owner had told us there was another shower over the bath which we could just use - true but we specifically booked a house with 2 showers as there were 6 of us. The cleaner did come over the next day with some drain cleaner to use and some towels (as not enough there for us all when we arrived). We left behind a charger which the owner very generously said she’d have posted to us but unfortunately it never arrived. We did have a lovely weekend but not because of the house.
Lovely cottage which had everything we needed for our week stay. Quiet village with fabulous canal walks. Parc just around the corner which the kids loved and plenty of things to do in the surrounding areas. Thank you for a lovely stay

I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay as I know how much you were looking forward to it! I hope you will come again! Lynn
We really enjoyed our long weekend stay at 1, The Green. The cottage is full of character and exceptionally well equipped – it even had hair tongs! It felt homely and comfortable, and was the perfect place to return to after some picturesque walks along the old Grantham Canal and a visit to Belvoir Castle. Lynn was a fantastic host – communication was excellent throughout. When we encountered a minor issue with the boiler on arrival, she swiftly arranged an emergency callout on the Friday evening, which we really appreciated.

Communication with the host is very good. Clear instructions for the property. The house is very comfortable to holiday in. We have stayed a few times and always enjoyed our time there. It does accommodate various age groups and we had a one year old with us. Although we had to shield the glass cupboard. A lovely property with a childrens play park within walking distance. If you have a dog, there are so lovely places to go all walkable from the property. A lovely farm shop selling fresh eggs. Its a great place for a relaxing holiday.
I am a part-time tutor of English for international students at a university. I have many friends abroad, and my son's family live in Sweden. I live in Surrey in a small 18th century cottage. My interests are nature and the environment, history, house renovation, music, walking and gardening.
Why they chose this property
My parents bought this house in 1970 when my father's work (international educational bookseller) required him to move to the Midlands. My son spent all his school holidays there when he was growing up. After my mother died in 2008 I decided to renovate the property and retain some of the furniture, books and other items that had been used when my parents lived there.
What makes this property unique
This house has a calm and happy atmosphere and gets the sun in the kitchen in the morning and in the sitting room in the afternoon. When the weather is not so kind it is cosy and comfortable and there is a log fire too. There is also a proper dining room- the house is traditional and elegant but also spacious and unfussily furnished. The countryside is good for walks and bike rides and there are plenty of places to visit. Nottingham is about 40 minutes drive away.
