About this property

Gite with private heated pool in tranquil rural location

Located in a quiet hamlet in the heart of the Limousin is this detached two-bedroom stone gite with private heated swimming pool.

On the ground floor is a large open plan lounge/dining room with beamed ceilings and tiled floors which always stay cool in the heat of the summer, a wood burning stove (for those cooler evenings), a spacious fully fitted and well-equipped kitchen and a shower room/wc. There is also access out to the rear sitting/dining area and garden.

Upstairs is a double bedroom with king size bed and a juliette balcony. The room overlooks the pool and has views across the fields towards Lussac-les-Eglises. There is also a triple bedded room plus a bathroom with bath and shower attachment. The house has free wi-fi, UK satellite TV and a DVD player.

Outside, is the 10x5 in-ground swimming pool with pool alarm (the pool is exclusively for the use of gite guests), a terrace with table and chairs for six, a barbecue and a large, private lawned area ideal for al fresco meals, games or sunbathing. There are loungers plus a selection of pool toys and outdoor games, including a table tennis table. The pool is heated from the end May to the end of September.

The gite is surrounded by beautiful countryside and there are plenty of places to walk or cycle and enjoy the peace and quiet. You will also find opportunities for fishing, golf and water sports nearby plus some charming old villages and interesting markets to visit.

The area around the gite is alive with birds. Apart from the native species we have many summer visitors including hoopoes, golden orieles, nightingales and shrikes. In the spring and autumn we are treated to the magnificent sight and sound of thousands of migrating grey cranes. During the summer months the garden and surrounding area are also filled with butterflies. Apart from the birds and butterflies, we regularly see deer and red squirrels in the garden and we also have a healthy population of hedgehogs. If you are lucky you might just see a pine marten too.

If you enjoy star gazing, the night skies above the gite are beautiful with the Milky Way often clearly visible.

Our local village, Lussac-les-Eglises, is approx 1 km away and has a boulangerie, small Spar shop, pharmacy and tabac. The nearest supermarket (Intermarche) is in Magnac Laval, which is a 15 minute drive away.

We live on site in the barn adjacent to (but separate from) the gite. Please be reassured that we will respect your privacy at all times. However, we will always be available to help with any problems and to answer any questions you may have.

Please note: the gite is located in a very quiet rural area - it is definitely not a metropolis! Our nearest small towns with supermarkets and restaurants are Magnac Laval and Le Dorat, which are both 15 minutes drive away. Bellac, La Souterraine and Montmorillon are all within 30 minutes drive and have a wider selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and other amenities.

Absolutly top location

This gite is located on a small road just outside the village and was built in the style of the typical natural stone of the region. The interior is a testament to the hospitality of Lizzie and Chris. They have really thought of everything. The area is very suitable for those seeking peace and quiet and nature lovers! Around the house is a beautifully landscaped garden with lawn, direct access to the private swimming pool that is only accessible to the tenants of the house. We had a wonderful holiday here and would like to thank Lizzie and Chris again for their hospitality.

Lovely gite with a fab pool!

Our family (2 adults and 2 children aged 7 & 11) had a great stay at this lovely gite. Lizzie and Chris were excellent hosts and communication ahead of our visit was superb. The gite was very clean, fully equipped with everything we needed and the pool was fantastic. The children spent most of the week playing in it. Perfect holiday Gite & perfect hosts!

We stayed for 2 weeks in June24 and after many holidays in France, we thought La Maladrerie was by far the cleanest, quietest and best equipped...and the pool is glorious. The welcome pack and fresh eggs from 'the girls' were superb. Lizzie and Chris have a little piece of French paradise and love to share it with people. We would not hesitate to come back!

Tranquility

A 3rd stay at La Maladrerie for us. The gite was clean and comfortable. Lizzie and Chris live on site and are very friendly and helpful whilst also allowing you privacy to enjoy your holiday. The pool is cleaned daily and is heated which helped us during an unusual cold May half term break. This being our 3rd stay we did find that the ever growing conifer hedge did impinge on light into the kitchen and could benefit from a radical trim. We also think that some screening could be placed between the gite and the barn to allow greater privacy when using the pool area. That said the gite is in a tranquil setting and we enjoyed garden time listening to the birds and watching the moles in the garden and the deer in the surrounding fields. Thank you for the welcoming package and the eggs from your hens.

Wonderful place

We had a wonderful week staying at La Maladrerie. The owners Lizzie and Chris are very friendly and welcoming and have made a beautiful home from home with the gite. We'd happily live in it! The location is great and the gite itself was immaculately clean and had everything we needed. The pool was lovely and a great temperature to be in. It was checked and cleaned every morning by Lizzie and Tim. We were asked to cover the pool when it wasn't in use, to prevent unnecessary evaporation, keep the temperature up and to keep it clean and so avoiding the need for more chemicals. Having recently recovered from illness which included chemical sensitivities it was brilliant that it didn't smell chlorinated and was wonderfully clean. We loved the tranquil rural setting, the nature in the garden and the stars at night. The immediate and surrounding areas are quiet and beautiful and we especially enjoyed a wander around Le Dorat and swimming at Le Lac du Saint Paradoux. Ammenities were just a short drive away. The only suggestion I would have for any future improvements would be to think about housing in the pool pump etc, which I could hear when sat by the pool. It wasn't noisy and my husband didn't notice it at all, but I sometimes found it a little distracting from the natural peace and tranquility which this places provides. We loved our stay here and would love to return one day.

Perfect in every way!

What a fantastic property with lovely owners! Chris and Lizzie were great from the moment I booked. Communication in advance was excellent and whilst we were there they were always on hand but respected our privacy - they wouldn't come near the pool/garden area whilst we were out there. The property was so well equipped there was nothing missing, we couldn't have asked for more. We had some lovely BBQ's on the patio. The pool was amazing, so clean and a great size for our family to play/swim in. It was thoroughly cleaned daily. My husband took his road bike and loved cycling in the area which was pot-hole free and with very few cars - he would cycle miles and only see a handful of cars! We loved walking in the area too. We wouldn't hesitate to return, we struggled to leave. All in all....perfect. Thank you Chris and Lizzie.

We had an excellent stay at La Maladrerie. The gite is beautifully renovated and was very clean when we arrived. Lizzie and Chris make you feel right at home with a welcome package and welcoming words. The pool is cleaned daily and is therefore the perfect place to be on sunny days. The neighbourhood is very quiet, surrounded with beautiful little towns. The only downside was that for a decent store, you need to drive for at least 15 minutes by car. Overall we had a lovely vacation and would highly recommend!

Home from home

As always the welcome from the owners was 2nd to none, the Gite beautiful clean fresh and so homely. The property is in a quiet location, but surrounded by lovely towns and every day we were able to find somewhere new to see. Chris and Lizzie are more than helpful, they are there when you want and need them yet allowing you the privacy to enjoy your holiday uninterrupted. I cannot wait to book again!

Wonderful three weeks

We loved everything about this cottage. The interior was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The garden was beautiful and so peaceful. The swimming pool was gorgeous and sparkling clean. Chris and Lizzie were superb hosts, nothing was too much trouble. We spent most days cycling on beautifully quiet roads, exploring the countryside and small villages around. In the afternoon, we lounged by the pool and swam. Just perfect. We would highly recommend and we hope to return.

A lovely Gite in the Limousin

A well equipped Gite with a good sized heated pool. Facilities were spotless when we arrived and the owners Chris and Lizzie, who lived next door, both respected our privacy whilst also being there to help when needed. Lots of opportunities to see wildlife locally.

2nd Visit - tres bon

Our 2nd stay at La Maladrerie and looking to book 3rd visit! Gite is comfortable and clean inside and out. Enjoyed the garden and the private pool. If you want some hwre that gives you peace and quiet with lots of space. This is the place to book. Owners live on site yet give you privacy making you feel at home. Lussac Les Eglises is a little town with some shops and a bar. 10 mins down the road is Magnac Laval which offers supermarket options and bars/restaurants two of which are British owned. The Haute Vienne has plenty to offer whatever you want from a holiday all within an hour or so of the gite.

Relaxing two weeks in Lussac- Les- Eglise

The property is exactly as described very neat clean and tidy. The pool is very large and kept clean every day and was always heated. Excellent Gite

We enjoyed a lovely two weeks at gite, the weather was glorious the whole time and the pool was a real bonus, it was beautifully clean and the water was crystal clear. The gite had everything we needed and more, it really was home from home. We went out and about most days exploring the area, Oradour, Montmorillon and Montrol-Senard were just a few of our favourites. Chris and Lizzie were the perfect hosts, nothing was too much of a problem and they made us feel very welcome.

We are a retired couple who moved to France from Tamworth, a market town in the middle of England, in 2020. We had a long held dream to live in France and holidayed all over the country. We were finally fortunate enough to be able to realise our dream in late 2020. We live in the house next to the gite and love the peace and quiet of living here.

Why they chose this property

We chose this property because it offered us the peace and quiet we were looking for plus the opportunity to run a gite business. We've holidayed in many different types of gites all over France in the past 20 years. We fell in love with the Limousin and knew it was the place we wanted to be. When we found this property it had many of the things we had enjoyed on our gite holidays - a tranquil location, clean air, wonderful night skies, a warm pool, friendly locals and a boulangerie not too far away!

What makes this property unique

There are many activities within 30 minutes of the gite including canoeing and horse riding plus plenty of fishing. There is also a flying school nearby!
There are several inland beaches / lakes : Lac Mondon, Lac St Pardoux and Lac Chaillac are less than 30 minutes away and the lake at Eguzon with it's water sports and water slide is less than 45 minutes away. A small river is 10 minutes walk from the cottage.
There is a bird sanctuary / lake close by too.
The coast is a 3 to 4 hour drive away.
The cottage is about 5 to 6 hours from the channel ports and less than an hour from Limoges airport. Poitiers airport and TGV are a little over an hour away.
A car or bicycle is essential.
The village of Lussac les Eglises with its small shop, boulangerie, pharmacy and tabac is a 5 minute drive away.
