Local Area
Cherveix-Cubas sits on the banks of the Auvézère River and is less than a kilometre downhill from the property. This welcoming village has all the essentials for a relaxed holiday in the Dordogne, including a good restaurant, pharmacy, hairdresser and post office — everything you need close to home.
Just 5km away is Hautefort, best known for its impressive 17th-century château and formal gardens, one of the highlights of the Dordogne. Beneath the castle walls you’ll find excellent restaurants and a selection of small shops. On the way to Hautefort there is a well-stocked Intermarché supermarket and a petrol station, making it easy to stock up during your stay, less than 5 minutes by car.
The Dordogne region is ideal for outdoor lovers, with rolling hills, wooded valleys and quiet country roads perfect for walking and cycling. Horse riding and canoeing are available nearby, while activities such as hot air balloon flights and quad biking can also be arranged within easy reach.
Exploring north along the Auvézère Valley, you’ll discover a number of interesting attractions, including an old forge, a historic paper mill, and one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, Ségur-le-Château.
In July and August, Ségur-le-Chateau hosts a lively Monday evening farmers’ market, where locals and visitors gather to enjoy food, barbecues and a friendly village atmosphere. A little further on is Pompadour, home to the French National Stud and a beautiful racecourse overlooked by a château — a lovely spot for a Sunday outing, perhaps combined with the bustling Sunday market in Objat.
The area is also famous for its prehistoric caves, including the world-renowned Lascaux, less than 30 minutes away in Montignac. Closer to home, the Tourtoirac caves, just 7km away, offer spectacular underground galleries filled with stalactites. Other nearby caves like Gouffre de Padirac can be explored by underground train or by boat on an underground lake, making them a fascinating day out for all ages.
