About this property

Thistle Haugh, the peaceful house with a hot tub

Welcome to your home from home in Barcaldine. We hope you enjoy your stay!

Thistle Haugh is a comfy house on a sunny site at the edge of the wood. Watch the birds, squirrels, deer and if you are lucky the pine marten. It’s the perfect spot to relax, unwind and enjoy nature or to use as a base for exploring the wild beauty of Scotland’s west coast.

We are 1km from the shore of Loch Creran and are surrounded by fantastic woodland walking trails with spectacular views. You can even take on the local Munros if you enjoy heading upward.
The route 78 cycle path passes close by and gives access to Tralee, the local Sandy beach, local cafes and the world famous pink shop in one direction and Creagan Inn, the local pub is a 15 minute cycle in the other.
Good cycle storage in the shed too.

Thistle Haugh is an excellent base for exploring the coast by car and ferry. Loch Ness, The Isle of Skye, Iona, Staffa and the Mull of Kintyre can all be enjoyed on a day trip from the house.

After an active day out, come back, enjoy a glass or two of your favourite tipple, wind down in the hot tub, have a bbq and relax on the patio.

The open plan living/kitchen area has plenty of space and all the amenities you should need. Electric oven, induction hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and countertop grill in the kitchen. TV(free sat), WI-FI and table top games can be enjoyed in the lounge area.

There are 2 bedrooms that can comfortably sleep 4. A cot and high chair are also available on request.
In the first bedroom, you will find a king size bed, en suite bathroom, plenty of storage and a view over the surrounding wood (if you don’t close the blinds).
The second bedroom has next door access to the shower room, two single beds, plenty of space and a view to the back where you can watch the red squirrels run across the wall to the feeder.

There are 2 bathrooms.
The first bathroom has a toilet, sink, bath and a walk-in shower (en suite).
The second bathroom has a toilet, sink and a walk-in shower.

Linen and towels are all included.
Lashings of hot water, underfloor heating, heated towel rails, a washing machine and iron will also help to make your stay comfortable.

Perfect
A great little cottage tucked away. The accommodation is perfect - a high standard and warm (we were there in November). The owners are lovely and we'd absolutely go back.

Thistle Haugh is a lovely cottage, very comfortable and clean. Close to everything we wanted to do - hiking, Ben Nevis. Very peaceful.

Absolute Gem 😍
Online photos do not do this house justice, it is much much better. Spacious and comfortable with everything you need it was a struggle to leave and explore 😀 Clean and neat as a pin with everything you could possibly need in quiet and peaceful surroundings. Thank you Isobel & Duncan you made our trip GRAND 😍

A lovely and welcome retreat
We stayed here after a few days in Edinburgh and it was the perfect quiet retreat from the city. Isobel and Duncan were so helpful! They went above and beyond - even helping us get food when we arrived after dark with a flat tire in our rental car. The house was perfectly appointed and felt comfortable and home-y. I hope to get back to Scotland someday and would stay here again!

Exactly as it says on the tin! AND MORE!
From the moment you pull into the beautiful gravel driveway, Thistle Haugh ticks all the boxes for those looking for a quiet, elegant and relaxing break… the stunning surroundings and lovely decor make you feel so cosy, the beds are comfy and kitchen more than adequate… (only thing I’d say is if you’re planning on cooking lots, for what I assume is safety reasons there are no sharp knives so take your own, but everything else is there!) The hot tub is BLISSFUL… you do have next door neighbours but I think we heard them very briefly twice over our stay… the surrounding area is so beautiful… and Isobel is a lovely lady! All in all would 100% recommend xx
