About this property

Gorgeous Watermill with Pool close to Dordogne’s stunning tourist attractions.

Our beautiful Watermill (Moulin), sleeps up to 15 guests, and is set within large garden grounds offering a peaceful haven to relax and get together with family and friends while taking advantage of all the delightful sights this beautiful region has to offer. Rejuvenate and rediscover your senses!

Set in one of the most picturesque and historic regions in France, the adorable Moulin de l’Hoste nestles serenely on the banks of the River Nauze. This charming 19th century water mill, located just south of enchanting Belves (classified as one of “Les Plus Beaux Villages de France”), has been lovingly refurbished and offers luxurious accommodation for up to 15 guests. For larger parties, our fabulous “Petit Gite” offers further sleeping accommodation for a further 4 guests (subject to availability and an additional cost).

The Moulin is quintessentially French, full of character with superb exposed stone walls, romantic beamed ceilings, large comfortable sofas, log burner and delightful bespoke outside dining, barbeque, chill out and play areas, with everything you need for a wonderful and memorable holiday. Our pool is open mid May to September.

Le Moulin de l’Hoste is situated on the main D710. Our perfect location allows our guests to explore and enjoy this wonderful region with many famous attractions and activities being just a short drive away. Rest assured your relaxation and comfort coupled with fun and enjoyment of our lovely facilities and the surrounding area are our priorities. When not exploring guests can relax beside the pool or in lovely garden areas, play games or delight in dining under the stars in our attractive alfresco dining and BBQ facilities.

We live in another property on site with our two friendly Golden Retrievers, Sanday and Gigha and would love to welcome you here to share all the stunning Périgord Noir has to offer…

Kindly note while the Moulin has its own private gardens, dining areas and BBQ, some areas of our estate are communal and so open for all our guests to enjoy.

SIGHTSEEING
The Dordogne Valley is rich in hidden treasures, culture, history and gastronomic delights, there is so much to do and see. Our perfect location in the wonderful Périgord Noir allows our guests to explore and enjoy this wonderful region with many famous attractions and activities being just a short drive away.

Breath-taking sights are plentiful in this area; beautiful lush and verdant forests gently embrace the meandering Dordogne River alongside dramatic and stunningly beautiful cliffside villages like La Roque Gageac and Beynac-et-Cazenac, which attract visitors from all over the world, including Hollywood movie makers! Built on top of the cliff dominating the village, you’ll find the enchanting Chateau de Beynac where you can follow in the footsteps of Richard the Lionheart, the famous King of England, who once walked these halls, probably eyeing the Château de Castelnaud opposite (containing the French opposition to the English invaders) and contemplating his strategies!

Our area abounds with so many magnificent chateaux; pretty, picture perfect medieval bastide towns, including our own lovely Belvès as well as Monpazier, Domme, Beaumont -du-Périgord, Lalinde, Villefranche-du-Périgord. Most of these charming bastides are also accredited with being among the ‘most beautiful villages in France’ – Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. Also worth visiting is Sarlat-la-Canéda, a beautifully restored medieval town and one of the most renowned and visited in France.

SPORTING ACTIVITIES
The Dordogne Valley is the perfect location for rock climbing, paragliding, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking, canyoning, horse riding, golf and so much more! It’s the number one destination for ramblers, with thousands of superb walks throughout the Valley.

FOOD LOVERS' PARADISE
From the vineyards of Bergerac and its famous Monbazillac to the Domme wines, walnut wine, chestnut liquor, and pastis of Sarlat, the Périgord excels in gastronomy and ‘La Belle Vie’.

A region famous the world over for its gastronomy, the Périgord flourishes in nature’s larder, bustling markets, colourful festivals and sumptuous cuisine including: foie gras, truffles (the black diamond of the Périgord), Bergerac wines, strawberries, walnuts, mushrooms, jams, cheese, honey… Here your taste buds dance to the intoxicating variety of flavours exclusive to the Dordogne Valley.

There is so much more!

About the host

Host profile image
Our family relocated from Scotland to this beautiful area of France in 2020. We wanted a more relaxed, peaceful and healthy lifestyle where we could enjoy fresh air, lovely people and breath taking countryside on our doorstep. We have been warmly welcomed and made lifelong friends.
Having let property in Spain and Scotland for many years, we wanted to create a wonderful holiday experience here for guests. Giving them the opportunity to fully relax with their family and friends and feel at home whilst creating memories to last a life time....

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with the mill as soon as we saw it. Such a beautiful and historic building, with babbling brooks on three sides. It's idyllic and restful. The grounds are very generous, so there's many areas to just sit and listen to trickling water, the birds, the insects and animals as they go about their daily business :-)
Inside the watermill, it's full of period features, exposed stone walls and ancient old beams. We have created beautiful Suites furnished to our high standards, offering well deserved comfort and luxury.
We are so close to stunning chateaux and gorgeous award wining villages, Michelin star restaurants, amazing gardens and caves, we want to be able to share this with holiday makers from across the globe.
