A new light-filled conservatory offers sweeping views of Black Combe and access to the large private garden enclosed by stone walls. Welcome to Wayside Cottage, a charming old (circa 1637) farmhouse nestled at the foot of the majestic Black Combe fell in the western Lake District. The Cottage, carefully restored to offer modern comfort and convenience, is part of the Wayside and Whisky Barn bed and breakfast complex. It provides the flexibility and privacy of self-catering accommodations, yet with easy access to the amenities of the Wayside just steps away. A path flanked by ancient stone walls leads to a hike on the fell, offering a magnificent vista of the sea and distant hills. Silecroft Beach is a five-minute drive away, or a hike across the fields, for a seaside sunset stroll. You are welcome to relax in the large private stone-walled garden or stop in the adjoining Whisky Barn to try one of the select whiskies on offer.
After that walk on the fell, you’ll want to relax in the Cottage’s cozy sitting room with its wood-burning fireplace. An adjoining spacious dining room has old oak beams, ancient worn slate floors, a wood-burning stove and access to the front enclosed garden. A large, well-stocked kitchen features an Esse cooker, Cumbrian slate countertops, and views of the fell and rear garden.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with a comfortable king-sized bed, the other with both a king-sized and a single bed. There is a modern bathroom with tub and shower upstairs, and a second bathroom with shower in the utility room downstairs, which also provides a washer and dryer for guest use. Enjoy your morning tea or happy hour wine in the new light-filled conservatory, with sweeping views of Black Combe and resident sheep.
The Cottage sleeps up to five guests. One well-behaved dog is welcome in the downstairs area; we ask that a dog not be allowed upstairs to prevent damage to the new oak staircase. Free, fast wi-fi is available. Secure parking is steps away for up to two cars.

Great stay!
We had a lovely, relaxing stay at the cottage. It was very well taken care of and equipped with everything we might need for our stay and any information we needed about the area was provided in advance. Emiko, the host, was also super responsive when we needed assistance.
We would definitely recommend staying at Wayside!

Location of the cottage as a central point for travelling out from, good suggestions for trips out including Ravenglass, Devoke water and Dalegarth and easy access to the fells for walking.

A lovely cottage in a hidden part of the Lakes
The cottage was well equipped and comfortable and the view from the conservatory was fantastic. It was great to stay in a lovely quiet spot and still walk from your door on the fells and the beach. Our dog was also made to feel very welcome :)
Had a wonderful stay at the Wayside. The cottage was perfect, had everything we needed and even wood for us to have a fire. Can't recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back!

Lovely cosy cottage
We stayed at Wayside Cottage for 5 nights. We were there to visit family, so we spent the mornings at the cottage and afternoons and evenings out and about. The cottage is very well located for our purposes. It is not far from the coast, and not far from Coniston Lake.

This is my 3rd visit, I know the food is great, I know the scenery is great, I know the cottage is great. But it is the owner, Dan & Emi, that put all of this together into a wonderful experience. You guys are amazing.

The cottage has a very homely and cosy feel about it helping us to relax within minutes.
Having two fires is a real luxury.
Eating breakfast in the spacious dining room with the wood burner warming the space was amazing each morning.
The living room with an open fire is perfect for cosy evenings.
The quality of furnishings from the sofa’s down to the bedding has a feel of luxury.
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a get away in beautiful surroundings.

Quiet relaxing Escape in the Western Lakes.
We had a relaxing few days away in Wayside Cottage. It’s a very characterful old cottage but with all the modern comforts. It was also our first visit to the Western Lakes and we loved it. Being so close to the beach was a bonus for the dogs! Emiko made us most welcome and had a huge knowledge of Whisky as we discovered at a whisky tasting in the Whisky Barn right next door. She also recommended a beautiful return drive back from a day trip to Wastwater over the back of the fells - stunning!

Exceeded all expectations
We loved everything about this stay, the location and outdoor spaces were beautiful and extremely well maintained.
The cottage was stunning, decorated and designed to a very high standard, with all amenities and supplies you could possibly want. Beautiful glass and table wear.
The guest house was so special, all rooms were presented beautifully, everywhere was immaculate. The food and table presentation was as faultless. And the Whiskey Barn was just the icing on the cake and enjoyed by all.

Simply THE best B & B we have ever stayed in.
This was our 2nd visit to the Wayside and Whiskey Barn and it did not disappoint. There’s always a risk that a 2nd trip might not live up to the memories, but this wasnt the case. Emiko is a real gem as a B & B owner. Every aspect of our stay surpassed our expectations. The room ( Buttermere ) MORE than lived up to our hopes. Spotlessly clean, a wonderful window-seat over looking the mountains. The bed was THE most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The bathroom & toiletries both glorious.

Delightful Rest & Recuperation !
This was our puppy's first stay away ! & the walled garden was just perfect - with a gorgeous backdrop and views to the front of the property our stay was perfect. There is some early morning traffic noise with the windows being open all night (due to the heat) - but located close to the wonderful beach at low tide in the glorious sunshine we could have been in Barbados !! Emiko & Dan are the perfect hosts. Friendly but not intrusive. The kitchen is very well equipped so cooking is no problem.
Our visit to The Wayside Cottage in Whitbeck was enormously enjoyable! There is so much to see and do. Lakes, fells, beaches, walks and other attractions and we had the perfect base. The hosts are extremely welcoming and the accommodation is second to none. We came home with wonderful memories and would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.
