About this property

5 Star Cottages (Sleeps 16), Amazing Sea & Mountain Views

Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn are immaculate character cottages which are equipped to an excellent standard. Rated 5 star by Visit Wales, they are beautifully presented to retain a truly cosy and charming atmosphere.

Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn sleep a maximum of 16 people in 8 bedrooms (4 bedrooms in each cottage). Each cottage has 2 kings (one with an ensuite), 1 twin and 1 bunk room. There are 2.5 bathrooms in each cottage- the ensuite, a family bathroom and a ground floor WC. So when rented together, Bryn & Tegfryn have 4 kings (2 with ensuites), 2 twin rooms and 2 bunk rooms. Across the 2 houses there are 4 bathrooms (to include the ensuites) and 2 ground floor WCs.

Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn are a pair of character semi-detached cottages constructed around 1900 in the beautiful coastal village of Borth-y-Gest, North Wales.

Outside, the balconies and front gardens provide a glorious coastal vista across Tremadog Bay to the Snowdonia mountains beyond. All the rooms to the front of Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn also benefit from these unobstructed views.

Please note that the cottages may not be suitable for guests with restricted mobility. Access to the front doors is via a steeply sloping path which also comprises a number of steps. There are approximately 20 steps to ascend to Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn (the views are more than worth the short climb!!).

Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn provide the ideal holiday destination from which to explore the fantastic beaches, beautiful mountains, picturesque villages, and the host of activities Northwest Wales has to offer. An excellent range of attractions awaits visitors to Bryn Gwyn, with wildlife centres, outdoor activities, train trips, historic sites, museums, fine gardens, golf and more to choose from.

In the immediate vicinity the sands at Borth-y-Gest are of particular interest to birdwatchers as they are home to a wide variety of species of birds including oystercatchers, redshanks and curlew, as well as winter visitors such as goldeneye, great crested grebe and wigeon. Summer brings flocks of sandwich terns.

Several beautiful beaches are within easy walking distance along the well maintained coastal path leading directly from the village centre. The sea is safe to swim on a low to incoming tide.

Meanwhile the village is largely surrounded by woodland, much of it deciduous and dominated by ancient Welsh oaks. Directly to the rear of Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn is Parc y Borth nature reserve. Parc y Borth woods is a local nature reserve long popular with walkers and ornithologists, and among the birdlife you might be lucky to spot green woodpeckers, tawny owls and pied flycatchers. An extensive network of paths will lead you from a public footpath running alongside Tegfryn through the woods to the top of a crag with extensive views of the Glaslyn and Dwyryd estuaries.

The road leading into Borth-y-Gest is a no-through road so that the roads are very quiet, being occupied by local traffic only.

A 10 minute walk to the east will take you into the popular harbour town of Porthmadog where there is a large selection of shops and restaurants. A harbour town with an impressive marina is situated on the Glaslyn Estuary. Porthmadog is rich in maritime history and in times gone by, it was a vital, busy shipping port for the international slate trade, brought down from Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Both the Welsh Highland Railway and Ffestiniog Railway can be boarded at Porthmadog.

The stunning location of the Porthmadog golf club is only one mile from Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn. The links golf course offers an intriguing mixture of heathlands and linksland for the discerning golfer.

The Snowdonia National Park begins a mere 2 miles from Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn and is a magnificent playground for those who love walking, mountain climbing or just scenery watching.

The Park covers 823 square miles of diverse landscapes. As well as being the largest National Park in Wales, Snowdonia boasts the highest mountain in Wales, and the largest natural lake in Wales, as well as a wealth of picturesque villages like Beddgelert (8miles).

Snowdonia is renowned for being a very special place for walkers with mountain peaks, lakes, forests, rivers and coastal areas. The National Park is working on developing a network of walks and more will be added every year. In addition Snowdonia National Park has a vast amount of cycling and mountain biking trails suitable for all abilities. The Park also hosts other outdoor activities such as white water rafting and climbing.

Portmeirion is a popular tourist village located just outside of Porthmadog, approximately 3 miles from Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn. It is Wales’ 3rd largest visitor attraction attracting 250, 000 visitors in 2009.

Portmeirion was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the style of an Italian village, which is now is now acknowledged as a unique architectural work of art. The village is now owned by a charitable trust.

The village stands on a rugged cliff top on its own private peninsula overlooking Cardigan Bay. It is surrounded by 145 acres of sub-tropical woodlands and miles of sandy beaches. The village has always been run as a hotel, which uses the majority of the buildings as hotel rooms, together with shops, a cafe, tea-room, and restaurant.

Portmeirion has served as the location for numerous films and television shows, most famously serving as The Village in the 1960s television show The Prisoner. The show became a cult classic, and fans continue to visit Portmeirion, which hosts annual Prisoner fan conventions.

Further afield are the attractive towns of Criccieth, Beddgelert, Harlech, Pwllheli, Nefyn and Abersoch.

Access statement;
Please note that the cottages may not be suitable for guests with restricted mobility. Access to Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn is via an unadopted level track, which leads from the main road (Borth Road). The track is approximately 20 metres in length which leads to the base of the property boundary. Access to the front doors is then via a steeply sloping path which also comprises a number of steps. There are approximately 20 steps to ascend to Bryn Gwyn and Tegfryn (the views are more than worth the short climb!!). Perfect base to reconnect with friends and our growing families

The property had all the equipment you could possibly need and more! The location was fantastic. Beautiful views across the little bay and in easy walking distance of Portmadog and a series of lovely secluded beaches. Lots of up and downs which meant picking up our pram now and then, but it was manageable. Jane was communicative and answered all my questions before visiting. Would love to come back, thank you!

Beautiful Views with Comfort

This property is in an ideal location with stunning views across an estuary, whether rain or shine it is beautiful. The accommodation had everything you could possibly need, we didn't have to go any buy any domestics or basics during our stay. The rooms are big and spacious. We found the property very easily and plenty of on-road free parking. There is a lovely smart restaurant/cafe cooking amazing breakfasts and other meals only a 5 minute walk away. Porthmadog is only a 15 minute walk too with loads to see and do. We will definitely stay here again. Thank You.

Better than expected

We rented 2 properties, both next door to one another for 11 family members (all adults). The properties were identical and the views from them were outstanding. The location was great. The cooking and dining facilities were of a size that we could all eat together. All rooms were comfortable and well furnished. We would definitely book these properties again and are already looking forward to a re-visit

Very special

Leading up to this special family gathering Jane was amazing and so responsive to emails. I booked it as a surprise family gathering for my mum‘s 80th. The property is very near the beach and beautiful coastal walk to other beaches. We had the most precious and memorable weekend at the most stunning property. I wouldn’t be surprised if we go back. It was over and above anything we dreamt off. AMAZING!

Just perfect!

We had both cottages as we are a large family and it worked perfectly. They were both so clean and well equipped and had lovely little touches, like a fruit cake on the table for when we got there! It is in such a great location, you are never to far from anything. We did lots of days out with the children, visited different beaches, climbed Snowdon and all of these things were well within an hours drive. The views are just incredible and we never tired of waking up to these views in the morning. Would definitely recommend these cottages to anyone and we would love to come back one day!

A most enjoyable holiday for children of all ages.

Excellent. Two lovely cottages, very well equipped with everything required for comfortable daily living. Recently renovated to the highest standards, new bathrooms, doors, windows, kitchen equipment, central heating etc. and well maintained. One lacked for nothing. Best location in town, with gorgeous views. Children loved it with trips to castles, lakes, Port Meirion, dips in the bay, catching sand crabs, riding horses, kayaking etc. Plenty of eating places to suit all ages.We spent three very enjoyable weeks there, and found it difficult to leave such a lovely location and home.away from home.

Two quality homes, in a beautiful location

I hired these 2 properties for an extended family party to celebrate a 50th and a 16th birthday, the groups ages ranged from 2 years to 72 years. These houses have been lovingly restored to provide 2 luxury holiday homes, furnished and equipped throughout with quality items. With everything provided for a very comfortable stay. Both properties were very clean and tidy. The views from the properties are outstanding, even on cloudy March days! I hope to return sometime soon, a weekend just wasn't long enough to explore this beautiful area. Thank you Jane for your helpfulness throughout the booking process.

Beautiful house in an amaxing location!!

From the minute we arrived at the property we were instantly impressed! The house was in an immaculate condition with every amenity we could possibly require available at our disposal. As a large group of 16 we had use of both of the properties and they were ideal - the kitchen provided more than enough room for us all to congregate on an evening and we even had two living areas if we eanted to escape for some peace and quiet! My personal favourite feature of the house was the power shower and I slept like a log in the very comfortable beds! The beach was practically on the door step and as a large group of 16 adults we were in our element reliving our younger years and even got fantastic weather to boot (in November)!! We ventured into Porthmadog which was a short walk away and enjoyed a beautiful picturesque setting along the way! Overall this property was perfect for a weekend away with friends and we had a fantastic time - we will most definitely be booking again next year!

absolutely fabulous

words cannot explain how wonderful these cottages are! They have been renovated to an exceptional standard and it is obvious that a lot of love and care has been put into them. From the moment we arrived we fell in love - what more can you ask for stunning views, perfectly furnished and a balcony to enjoy the view perfect at the end of the day with a glass of wine. The cottages are spacious and the standard of cleanliness was excellent. The cottages had everything you could need - I even baked a cake. The kitchen diner was my favourite room - perfect for cooking, entertaining and enjoying a cup of tea taking in the views from the comfy chair (this was the most faught over seat in our cottage). The weather was not particularly kind to us but it did not spoil our holiday. It is a perfect base for exploring Snowdonia and relaxing. The owner provided excellent instructions for getting there and booking with Jane was a pleasure she was so helpful and friendly. Sally was also a delight to meet to be able to thank her for how clean the cottages were and for the welcome pack. I would love to come back - in fact I did not want to leave! I would recommend these cottages to everyone - there is something for all ages

Great holiday cottages

What a fantastic place to spend our holiday. The cottages where outstanding and had recently been renovated to a very high standard. There was 15 of us in our group aged between 5-83 and at no point did we feel on top of each other. The rooms were beautifully presented and there was everything you could possible need and so much more. The rooms are so spacious and the kids loved the back room with the wii in it and played happily on it,while the adults enjoyed the peace and quiet. We loved sitting on the balcony and taking in the beautiful views,borth-y-gest is a quiet and beautiful place and close enough to porthmadog if you want somewhere busier. The cottages are located in a beautiful part of north wales a small unspoilt village, several beaches are within easy walking distance. We would highly recommend anyone staying at either cottage a great time like we all had and we will definitely will be returning to the cottages in the future and would recommend it to all are family & friends. Cant wait to go back.

Lovely, lovely, lovely!

Tegfryn - what a lovely holiday home! We stayed in May in a party of all ages up to 79! What a beautiful place, lovely holiday home with everything you would need for a lovely break - lovely little details to make you relax. Tegfryn was immaculate and the views spectacular. If you are looking for a place surrounded by nature - so many lovely walks nearby the coast or just to watch the world go by in their boats - Tegfryn is for you! When you enter the village you see the cottage straight away and the walk up is fairly easy, parking was easy on the main road below, but there is also a car park very close at the beach. We would love to return to this lovely holiday cottage and cannot rate this cottage high enough. Thanks to the owners who were so professional and answered all our questions with such ease.

Stunning holiday cottage

Having stayed in a number of holiday cottages in the area I have to say this one is second to none. The house has been done to a very high standard without losing any of the charm. The views are fantastic from both the ground floor and 1st floor, not to mention the balcony which we managed to use even in April. There was nothing the owners had not though off. The beaches which are stunning are a stones throw away, A local tea room is a bonus and the local shop has essentials. Would deffinatly recommend to friends and family and will be booking again soon.
