Originally built in 1900, this incredible home is made of white limestone quarried from the nearby hillside by German stone masons. Two lime kilns used to make lime for the mortar are found near the house. Just renovated (2017), this property features new additions that create a lovely balance between its original characteristics and its modern upgrades. It is situated on 145 acres providing a hiking opportunity for guests.
“Das Enchanted Rock Haus” is situated on a grassy Crabapple valley with incredible views of the valley and nearby ranches.
The recent addition has cathedral ceilings featuring a living room with an entertainment area, limestone gas fireplace with a hand-finished mesquite mantel, and upstairs loft. This is the perfect space to gather with loved ones.
In the original home, you'll find a gourmet kitchen, formal dining room, living room, and 5 spacious bedrooms. You'll love the exposed limestone walls and 120 year old long leaf pine floors throughout.
A game room with a Foosball table location in the basement with seating for observers to enjoy the contests.
Each bedroom features a king bed, making it easy for you to relax and unwind in your own private space. Get ready for bed in one of the 4 en-suite bathrooms as you draw yourself a warm bubble bath or take a steamy hot shower! On the first floor, a shared bathroom doubles as a powder room and provides a private walk-in shower for the 5th bedroom. 2 of the rooms have beautiful tile tubs and 3 have large walk-in showers.
In the evening watch from the 2nd story deck as 20-30 whitetail deer forage each evening and listen for the wild turkeys calling to each other. View two llamas and free range chickens that compete with the deer for corn. Wild turkeys and armadillos are often sighted as well.
Guests will spend much of their time around the house (about 1 acre) and will have access to the 135 acres behind the house. They can hike through the valley and follow the pasture road to the mountain top point for a beautiful view of the valley. It is opportunity to see deer, cattle, wild turkeys, armadillos, road runners, and even native lizards. If the guests have 4-wheel drive pickup or SUV with 9 inches or better of clearance, they can drive the hiking trail. The road to the top of the mesa requires 4-wheel drive. A map and instructions are provided upon arrival.

Absolutely amazing hill country property. Great communication from the host, the place was clean, the space inside and out were perfect, and the countryside is beautiful. Would definitely stay here again.

Thanks for taking the time to review your experience. We are happy you enjoyed it, and we hope you choose us again.
Way above expectations! 10 out of 10.The house was exceptionally comfortable ... bedrooms, water pressure, A/C, living room. We actually only used one of the living rooms ... it's a big place.Hiking on property was more enjoyable for our group than Enchanted Rock, though we recommend both.Sitting around the fire pit at night and watching the stars was as relaxing as you would hope. The owners can provide great recommendations for restaurants in and around town, etc. Enjoy.

We loved this place-our stay was over Christmas. So clean, kitchen well stocked, beds were awesome. Mark (the owner) even had a Christmas tree setup in the den which was a special surprise. We loved the setting- deer in the yard, and so quiet. The weather was unseasonably warm and we sat on the porch for hours. It was beautiful. Mark was so available and responded to any questions we had almost immediately. It is a bit out of town, but so worth it. Highly recommend.

Thanks for your review. We are so happy you had a nice time. Thanks for your patience with freezer that leaked and formed hazardous pools of water. It has been repaired.
We would to have you back.
This house is so beautiful and the setting is private, surrounded by live oaks, wildflowers, lush green woods, deer, rabbits, and we even saw a road runner! The house is meticulous and so well maintained. It’s on a road where many cattle farms are so you are always seeing cattle and steer grazing. We all loved being there. I highly recommend this home.
We really enjoyed this place. It was very roomy and loved the upstairs bedrooms with bathrooms. Also the country setting was great for our family. Would definitely stay here again!
We stayed one night for my 28th birthday and it was great! Only 15-18 minutes from Main Street and the house was clean and big enough for 7 people to hang.

About the host
Hosted by Mark Hughes
Mark and Koreen owns about a 500 acre ranch close by. Originally purchased by her mother and father in the 1970's as a place to hunt and eventually retire.
We received this property in 2012 and rented it out for a couple years. When the renters moved out we decided to remodel the original house and add a more comfortable addition.
The original house served as ranch homestead from 1900 to about 1995.
Our intention is for the house to provide comfort, privacy, relaxation, and easy access to Enchanted Rock and Fredericksburg.
Why they chose this property
We recognized the potential of the house and wanted to share it with others.
What makes this property unique
Uniquely situation with easy access to both Fredericksburg and Enchanted Rock State Park.
