Situated in the highly sought-after harbour bowl of Brixham, with wonderful views of the harbour, Oyster Catcher Cottage is a charming period cottage located in one of this bustling fishing town’s prettiest streets. Just a short walk to the harbour front, and a stone's throw from all the amenities of the town, Oyster Catcher Cottage makes a fantastic base for exploring Brixham and South Devon.

With a smart renovation completed in November 2021, the unique charm of this property begins, quite literally, at the front door. Set into the striking sky-blue façade of this pretty cottage is the distinctive period door with feature porthole, and the character continues inside in the charming living space where you will find a log burner for cosy evenings, a feature cast iron range, beamed ceilings and exposed stone walling.

The cottage is arranged over 3 levels and stairs take you up to the first floor to the kitchen and an open plan dining/living room from which there are lovely views over the rooftops to the inner and outer harbour. The town takes on a different character as the sun sets and the colourful cottages light up, so relax and enjoy the evening views from this sociable space after a day exploring.

The well-equipped kitchen offers the perfect flexibility for self-catering. Brixham is a food lovers' paradise, and you will be spoilt for choice for places to eat out from morning to night. Start your day off with a short saunter down to Brixham’s artisan quarter, “Middle Street”, brimming with independent coffee shops, artisan bakeries and cafés, then browse among the creative retailers including some of the town’s artists and photographers. For culinary enthusiasts, why not pick up some fresh fish straight off one of the local day boats to prepare back in the cottage and then enjoy an after dinner drink in the courtyard garden which can be accessed from the kitchen.

The bedrooms are located on the second floor of the cottage with the main bedroom enjoying magnificent views over the harbour and across the marina to the Breakwater. The second bedroom is fitted with bespoke sized built-in bunk beds recommended for children or adults under 5'6".

The cottage also has a sofa bed and a trundle bed which can be set-up upon request and can comfortable accommodate children under the age of 15 if required.

About the host

Hosted by Saltwater Escapes

Host profile image
Saltwater Escapes is a family run business offering beautiful holiday homes along the South Devon coast. Saltwater Escapes was started by husband and wife team Jamie and Kate. Born and raised in Brixham, Jamie spent his childhood on the local beaches and enjoyed the many outdoor pursuits Devon offers .  Kate's early childhood years were also spent by the sea in North Berwick, Scotland. Later moving to rural Berkshire, Kate enjoyed much freedom outdoors in the surrounding countryside. They have subsequently had two children of their own and hope to instil in them the same love for the outdoors, a sense of adventure, and the importance of quality time together.

Regularly taking their children back down to Devon, their treasured escapes from their busy pace of life and enjoying old fashioned fun have become a family tradition. A time to switch off and relax, to get back to nature, to try something new, explore somewhere different, and most importantly to make treasured memories. From the moment you arrive at a Saltwater Escapes property we aim to give you a warm welcome starting with complimentary welcome provisions with a few essentials and some local goodies too! All properties offer fantastic access to the towns treasure's including the many cafés and restaurants, the beaches and of course the beautiful sea. Our team of Housekeepers and Property Managers are all local should you need to call for any assistance with anything.  We love that Saltwater Escapes' properties have become a home from home for many of our customers who have stayed with us year after year and are making traditions of their own and memories to treasure.
