About this property

The Tonic – 1 Bed with Patio in Shoreditch

Combine crisp and modern interiors with lavish extras, like a custom-designed glass curtain wall, and you’ll get this flash penthouse apartment in the thumping heart of Shoreditch. Natural light pours through the large south-facing window and illuminates the sleek living space. Surrounded by some of the city’s best bars, authentic East End pubs and world-class eateries at your front door.

Natural light pours through the large south-facing window and illuminates the sleek living space – it’s the ideal spot for reclining with your morning coffee or catching up on work at the dining table. On balmy afternoons you can have lunch on the terrace. Step outside of your front door and you’ll find yourself surrounded by some of the city’s best bars, authentic East End pubs and world-class eateries. Check out exhibitions in the Autograph Gallery, a four-minute walk away, or take the fifteen-minute mosey to Brick Lane to fill up on street food before browsing the vintage shops.

The interior design of the place is world class and made by an awarded designer who used crisp, clean, reflective materials throughout and an an elegant double-height centrally located ‘island’ element incorporating stairs, wine rack, bathroom, and kitchen.

Views through a glazed floor will tempt you upstairs. Special glazing separates the kitchen from the bedroom, turning opaque at the flick of a switch to preserve privacy when needed. The south-facing window was enlarged to offer full-height views and let the light bounce through to the heart of the flat.

Brick Lane for your curry needs. Brick Lane for your vintage fashion needs. Brick Lane for your graffiti needs. Brick Lane for your artisan coffee needs. I think you get the picture! Plenty of beautifully-preserved old Georgian streets to discover in amongst the old warehouses and street art. It`s become a popular area for tourists to check out, so we can`t promise you`ll be the only visitors, but we can promise you that there`ll be plenty to eat, see and photograph.

Even tourists not staying in Brick Lane have a day here checking out all it has to offer. Below I have added some local recommendations.

Brick-Lane Brasserie - Award Winning restaurant in the area
At Brick Lane Brasserie you will find dishes incorporating regions of India`s finest ingredients and flavourings enhanced by our unique method of cooking. Brick Lane Brasserie offers a range of mouth-watering dishes cooked with only the natural herbs and spices. Whether you want a quick and easy meal or a complete style dinner, you`ll find everything you need.

Thai O’CHA Restaurant
Thai culinary art with elegant ambience. Our gastronomic creations vary from royal Thai cuisine to refined home-cooking inspired from Thailand’s diverse regions.

High Grade Coffee
Both Brick Lane and coffee carts have played key roles in the development of the London coffee scene but never the two together before. Several cafes in the area have closed so a cart outside the Old Truman Brewery seems a very workable idea, especially with coffee and service of this quality.

Kahaila
Charity-run cafe for ethically-sourced coffee, sandwiches and cakes in an art-filled urban setting.

Brick Lane Tap Room
A Tap Room in the heart of East London, with a regularly rotating selection of ales, lagers and stouts on tap. Initially opening as a pop up, they are now a thriving part of Brick Lane’s beer scene

The Cocktail Trading Co. Brick Lane
Serious cocktail bar offering a range of classics and new creations in a funky and on-trend venue.
Upmarket Brick Lane Food Hall
Stalls fill the Old Truman Brewery each Sunday, selling vintage/new clothing and crafts, plus food.

The Truman Brewery
Former brewery premises reborn as independent boutiques, bars, diners, a food hall and music venues.

Great location but some major challenges

The location is fantastic, and the living room set up etc of the place is just fine and as advertised. But there are aspects that were problematic. First, check in: the key box is hard to find and covered in dog urine. Really unpleasant. Second, the patio is unusable. It was filthy. Third, the kitchen is very impractical to use, and the smoke detector was way overly sensitive. And there were no wine glasses! Come on. Finally, and this was a bummer, the hot water heater went out and had to be reset, which was not easy to do.

Thank you, Eric. I’m pleased to hear you found the location fantastic and enjoyed the flat overall. I’m sorry to hear you experienced a few issues during your stay. Regarding the key box, thank you for your feedback—I've since resolved this, and we no longer use a key box system. As for the wine glasses, we do have several stored in the middle kitchen unit, and I’m sorry they weren’t easily found. The hot water issue was an unexpected blip, and it’s not something we typically have problems with—apologies for the inconvenience. I hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future. Best, Van
