Situated in a small village on the South Coast of Cornwall First Floor The Hayloft offers an idyllic location to stay, 6½ miles from the market town of Penzance and 2½ miles away from the most westerly point of the English mainland, Land’s End. The property is believed to originally be part of the old stable block belonging to the manor house, at the front of the property you can see the original steps leading to what would have been the first floor and on the side, you can see where the door has been blocked up. Having been restored and modernised it is now a light and airy first floor apartment with two bedrooms, open plan living/kitchen, bathroom, and a small utility room. Parking next to the property is a bonus, much quicker to walk the ½ mile to the beach. After a long day why not sit in the private courtyard looking at the stars with a drink.
The local area has some of the highest temperatures, the lower valley and beach enjoy a micro-climate sheltered from winds. Porthcurno is known for its history as a major international communications cable station, at Wireless Point it is thought that a wireless telegraphy antennae erected in1902 was used to spy on the early transmissions of Marconi. The cliffs and coastlines are designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and are believed to be some of the most stunning in the UK. Turquoise seas, sand made up of soft crushed seashells the beaches are breathtaking, to the east is a small tidal beach Green Bay, and further along is Pedn Vounder. The rugged coastline is a favourite for walkers and nature lovers, occasionally you may see a basking shark or dolphins as well as an abundance of birds. On the cliff face to the West of Porthcurno beach is the unique open-air theatre, accessible by foot along a rugged path from the coastal footpath of by road up a steep hill. The Rowena Cade exhibition centre and coffee shop is a welcome stop and is open to visitors for most of the year, it is closed during performances.
If you don’t want to cook there are plenty of places to choose from, pubs, café and restaurants and if you need anything pop into the local shop and post office at St Leven. Just 6½ miles away is the market town of Penzance the last stop by rail, it is an idea to park and travel by rail in peak season. Next to Penzance is the ancient market town of Marazion and home to St Michaels Mount, when the tide is low you can walk across to the mount and explore the beautiful gardens, have refreshment at the café and wander the small streets. Why not visit Lands End the most westerly point of the mainland just 2½ miles away, plenty of parking and loads to do both indoors if the weather is bad or outdoors and you must get your photo taken at the famous Land’s End to John O Grouts lamp post. Beach ½ mile.
