About this property
The Wee House by the Sea
The location of this marvellous little house is exactly what you want from a coastal retreat. The interiors have been beautifully finished. It’s the complete package for couples in the north of Scotland.
Wee House by the sea is a gem of a holiday home dating back to the 19th century and set in the lovely village of Balintore. Tucked away in the heart of the village on characterful Shore Street, the wee house is only a stone’s throw away from the sea and Shandwick beach.
The space
There are two pubs within a few minutes’ walk, a useful corner shop literally just around the corner, and an old harbour to sit beside and watch the boats come to and fro. It’s a fantastic place to spend a week or two.
Balintore is one of three villages that make up the Seaboard Villages. The others being Shandwick -where the beautiful sandy beach is- and Hilton. As well as being attractive and welcoming villages, and perfect for a Highland holiday, the Seaboard Villages are rich in history.
There are two standing stones from this area, one in Shandwick and another in Hilton. They date back to the 8th century. The Shandwick Stone, a fine example of a Pictish stone, is 9ft tall and still stands in its original position. It is thought to have been used as a navigational tool. Also, in Balintore you will find the Mermaid of the North, an 11ft tall bronze statue that stands on the rocky shore. It’s opposite the Seaboard Centre where you can learn more about the area and also get a North Coast 500 Mermaid stamp if so inclined.
The NC500 is only a few miles away from the wee house so it makes an excellent base from which to day trip out to different parts of the route.
Being close to the Highland interior roads means that from Balintore you can easily explore the north east coast and the west and north coasts too. You can drive via Lairg to all of the NC500 highlights, and importantly all adventures can be a day-long!
After exploring the fantastic far north of Scotland you will return to the fabulous Wee House by the sea.
It’s a cute place and ideal for couples looking for a romantic base. Entering in the front door the ground floor is open plan. There’s a great little kitchen, comfortable seating area and surprisingly large wood burner for cosying round.
Also, on the ground floor there’s a beautifully finished bathroom. On the first floor there’s a characterful double bedroom with exposed beams. The owners have tastefully finished this wee house to create a luxurious place to stay in an amazing spot.
Don’t hesitate, book your week now and forever be glad you did!
