Situated on a working sheep hill farm, high above the Kintyre coastline, Ballygroggan Bungalow is at the end of a long and winding road up into the back of beyond countryside, next to Machrihanish beaches and golf course.

This lovely, detached property offers uninterrupted views out across the Sound of Kintyre towards the islands of Islay, Jura and Gigha, and on exceptionally clear days, the coastline of Northern Ireland is also visible, 14 miles away. The Kintyre Way Walk passes through the back of the farmyard onto the higher hill with Cnoc Moy dominating the skyline. As well as birdwatching, the dynamic changing views of the sea and skies offer a haven of peace and tranquillity where you can enjoy a slower pace of life.

Renovated with loving care by the owners, the stunning open-plan living space with wood burner has views over the gardens and to coastline beyond. There are two cosy welcoming bedrooms, both served by a family shower room.

In Machrihanish, the beaches have soft white sand with an abundance of shells, as well as a children’s play park and a pub, which is open for food and drink all day. The pub is now seasonal so closed November through to March.

Machrihanish has a world-renowned golf course and within a 20-mile radius of this area are five top quality courses. Ballygroggan is located close to the peaceful little coastal town of Campbeltown. Enjoying a better than average climate due to the warming Gulf Stream, as the palm trees on the sea front demonstrate, it is an ideal base for exploring the many attractions of the southern Kintyre Peninsula and the Southern Hebrides.

Surrounded by green hills and built around a scenic harbour, filled with yachts and soaring seagulls, Campbeltown is a bustling wee town with a great selection of restaurants, pubs, cafés, museums and playgrounds. Davaar Island in the bay can be visited to discover the world-famous cave painting. It also has several fine period buildings, including the oldest purpose-built retro cinema. Campbeltown is home to three whisky distilleries, Springbank, Glen Scotia and Kilkerran, which produce world renowned malt whiskies and offer distillery tours.

With ferries to Arran, Gigha, Islay, Jura and the Cowal Peninsula all within a short drive, there is plenty to explore. Outdoor enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice with great opportunities for wind and kite surfing, sea angling, scuba diving, cycling and horseriding, all available locally. There is abundant wildlife to see whilst out exploring including golden eagles, otters and seals. Some ferries, local pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions have winter timetables.

Hilltop Farm

Bungalow was up a long lane to the top of a hill that looked over Machrihanish. Gorgeous setting with farmland and farm animals all around. The house was extremely well outfitted and all utilities worked well with no problems. There was immediate access to The Kintyre Way hiking trail that provided more spectacular views. We stayed here while on a golf focused holiday. Access to islands ny ferry is relatively close. We loved our stay.

There’s a couple of grumbles about this cottage, though not major, certainly significant.

There’s a couple of grumbles about this cottage, though not major, certainly significant. Firstly the mattress on the double bed was uncomfortable. Secondly the sofas were also a little uncomfortable, we both felt this, any prolonged period on them was not good.Thirdly there was no welcome pack as advertised. Now for the positives. The location is a huge selling point. From the sitting room vantage point and the decking outside the views are sublime. Jura, Islay and the coastline are before you. You can watch the storms coming in and scuttle away. It’s on a farm, ergo super quiet and it’s right on the Kintyre Way. So walks in all directions. The location is perfect. The cottage was very cosy and warm and achieved this rapidly, no need for the log burner. There is a porch and utilities room for getting over clothes off, muddy boots etcThe kitchen/diner has everything you’d need or want. And it was spotless. Lastly, Karen, whom is the go to person for any and all questions was in contact prior to and throughout with advice and suggestions. A very helpful person. You always ask the question, would you return? Change the double mattress and maybe the sofas and I’d jump at the chance.
