About this property

Stunning vineyard cottage with pool and terrace

Slow down and unwind at this unique and tranquil getaway. Once a vineyard workers cottage, many years ago, it is now fully restored to comfortably welcome four guests. The cottage flanks the vines with an uninterrupted view over the vineyard towards the estuary on the horizon. Relax on the terrace and take in its generous views over the landscape, take a dip in your own private pool or stroll through the vines and woodlands that are both equally abundant in the area.

Magical vineyard vacation with family
We were honored to stay at this cottage! Our family of four (two adults, 4yo and 6yo) came in for a local wedding. We were incredibly grateful for the food since we arrived in the late afternoon after long travels with kids. We frequently use rental homes and this is one of the most well appointed places we've stayed. It has everything you need but is not cluttered or overwhelming. You can tell a lot of thought went into the design. The rooms are generously sized and we appreciated having a separate bathroom for our kids! This would also be a great place for two couples. The highlight for our kids was the pool - they swam multiple times a day. The highlight for adults was the expansive vineyard views. Be prepared for morning, afternoon, and evening walks to check out the vines. All the basics are within a five minute walk of the cottage. The boulangerie was great for bread and croissants. The Proxi (convenience store), pharmacy, and butcher shop are all right next to each other. There are also outdoor tennis courts, a small soccer/futbol enclosure, and a pingpong table all right behind the cottage. We stopped at the Intersport in Blaye and picked up swim goggles (pool is salt water, which the kids weren't used to), a soccer ball, and ping pong paddles so we could take advantage of everything! Finally, our kids aren't babies anymore but it hasn't been that long; this seems like a great place for families with very young kids. It was so sad to leave Berson - we'll be back!

About the host

In 2016 Naomi and Andrew, an Irish couple from Co. Cavan, got the keys to Château Puynard and began our new life as wine makers. We had previously lived in London and the UK and had worked in wine retail - so this was a new adventure! Since then, they expanded to buy another vineyard locally and opened a holiday home there, in what was once the family home. They had always looked wistfully at the old ruin that sat at the gates of their own home and thought what a shame to let it crumble. So they didn't! They decided to renovate it in full and so Le Petit Puy was (re)born in 2022!

Why they chose this property

The whole house has been completely restored with an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area on the top floor which also includes a cosy stove and fireplace. On the lower floor are two generous bedrooms, both with en suite toilet and shower. One bedroom had a large round bathtub too. These bedrooms can be set up as two doubles or one double and one with two singles. Outside, we have built a new terrace with a swimming pool nestled neatly along the terrace walls, ensuring privacy, peace and quiet. On the terrace we have a bbq and seating/sunbathing area and there is an outdoor firepit available to visitors too.

The cottage is set on the edge of our working Côtes de Blaye vineyard. It is also on the edge of the village, Berson, and across from the local primary school and mayors office. In the village, a short stroll away, is a bakery, a small convenience store, a butchers, a pharmacy and a tabac which also serves refreshments.

Blaye, the closest big town, is less than ten minutes drive from the cottage. It is home to the UNESCO heritage site, the Citadelle de Blaye - a Vauban fortress set on the banks of the Gironde river. For day to day amenities, on the way into Blaye there is a large Leclerc supermarket, a Lidl and many other stores too.

There are also many things to explore within an hour or two drive away - Bordeaux city, St. Emilion, Arcachon, Dune du Pilat, Cap Feret, Ile de Ré and Ile de Oleron, La Rochelle, Royan, Cognac and much more! Bordeaux airport is 55km away, taking between 50 and 60 minutes to drive (outside rush hour)

We don't charge for cleaning the house at the end of your stay, but we do expect the property to be left as you found it, otherwise there will be a cleaning fee of 100 euros.

There are stone steps up to the cottage front door which are a little uneven. However, the house can be accessed by various different doors during a stay there.

Lastly, sheets and towels are all included for guests at the cottage.

What makes this property unique

This property is a unique and special getaway for anyone wanting to unwind and enjoy a few days at a different pace. It is a completely independent property and there is lots of space around the cottage to have a real sense of freedom and privacy all at once.
