Boasting free on site parking for two vehicles and a garden with outdoor furniture, Waterleap Cottage is perfect for family staycations, romantic retreats and getaways with friends.

The Space:

Upon entering the property, you’ll be welcomed into the light and airy living and dining area. Perfect for socialising and relaxing, this space includes two comfy sofas, a log burner, a flat screen TV and a dining table with four matching chairs. Traditional in style, it is ultra cosy and in perfect keeping with the nature of the cottage.

The kitchen features a dishwasher, oven, hob, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, kettle and cookware so you can make the most of your self-catering stay.

Take the stairs up to the first floor and you’ll find two bedrooms and the family bathroom. The master bedroom boasts a comfortable king size bed, a chest of drawers and a floor length mirror. There is also a feature wall of wood cladding in sage green to create a tranquil feel.

The second bedroom has sloped ceilings and exposed beams. A double bed, dressing table and vintage style cabinet complete the space.

Clean and modern, the bathroom has a bathtub with an overhead shower, WC and basin.

There is free on site parking for two vehicles.

The Neighborhood:

Waterleap Cottage is located in the village of Ovingham in the south of Northumberland. This quaint village has a playing field, a corner shop, a local pub called the White Swan and a rum bar called Shenanigans.

Just one mile from Ovingham is the town of Prudhoe where there is plenty for you to discover. Explore Prudhoe Castle which was originally built in a series of Norman Castles along the Tyne after the 1066 conquest. Enjoy a fun-filled day at Prudhoe Waterworld which has a 25m pool, a slide, a splash pool, a wave pool and a huge inflatable. If you enjoy a spot of golf, Prudhoe Golf Club is a 5-minute drive from Waterleap Cottage.

Ovingham is also 2.5 miles from the pretty village of Wylam. With a rich heritage in railway, it is the birthplace of George Stephenson so it’s a great place to see where one of Britain’s railway pioneers was born. If you’re interested in trains, we’d recommend a visit to Wylam Railway Museum where you can learn about the village’s history. There are plenty of scenic places to walk and cycle in Wylam too. You can head along Wylam Waggonway or Hagg Bank Bridge.

Getting Around:

Ovingham has great bus routes to the nearby towns and villages. Hop on the X84 route which travels from Newcastle Eldon Square to St Andrew’s with stops in Wylam and Hexham. If you want to visit Prudhoe, the 686 bus will take you there.

The closest train station is located in Prudhoe which is a short 5-minute walk from the property. There are regular trains to Carlisle with stops in Sunderland, Newcastle, Metro Centre and Hexham.

Comfortable & good location

Overall nice, comfortable and excellent location. Garden needs attention and some kitchen utensils require replacement. However despite this we would visit again if needed to be in the area again.

Lovely cottage and location

We enjoyed our stay very much. The decor and furnishings are very good and the outlook very relaxing. The only negative was the bins, being told we would be fined 100 if we put the wrong rubbish in the wrong bins made me a bit paranoid. It would be helpful to have some physical information to hand rather than the email we received as different areas of the country recycle differently. The online guide was helpful but it would have been good to have a bit more local info re walks etc. overall we had a great stay and would definitely recommend it to others.

Thank you for your kind feedback! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay and found the décor and outlook relaxing. We appreciate your comments regarding the bins and understand how the warning could be a bit stressful. We’ll definitely consider providing clearer, more accessible information for guests, especially with how recycling can vary across regions. We’re also grateful for your suggestion about including more local info on walks and attractions – it’s something we’ll look into for future guests. Thanks again for your recommendations and for sharing your thoughts! We hope to welcome you back soon.
