Our family of four appreciated the space! We enjoyed the game shelf, the goodies left for us, the comfy beds, the nearby park and the lovely pub. This is a great spot for families.

Hi Adam, thanks very much for your great review. We are so glad you enjoyed your weekend. The Coopers is a definite recommendation for any of our guests - their roast dinners are amazing!
Fantastic house and easy walking distance to The Coopers Arms which we visited everyday! Walking along the canal was lovely, our trip to Leicester was east from here and we were also able to head off to Donnington Race Track to watch some motor racing on Sunday.
Brilliant fun - we will definitely be back
A great weekend staying in this lovely home. Some great touches such as the children's books and games, they were very useful to help keep the little ones entertained! Lovely area and great local walks and amenities, pub and shop 5 mins away. Hopefully we will return!
I have always wanted a conservatory, and this one was lovely. We had a very enjoyable stay in spite of a flat tire on our rental car. It gave us more time to explore the neighborhood including the horses and sheep and the canal.
We had a lovely short stay in January. Nice house, very clean. Milk/tea bags and a few treats were much appreciated. Good location. No problem at all with noise as per another review - could hardly hear trains/planes, which were infrequent. Made good use of wood burner (thank you). TV was a little frustrating - no live TV (though could use iPlayer, ITVX etc.). Bunk bed spring mattress also uncomfortable. But everything else was lovely and hosts communicated well. Highly recommend.

Hi Mel, thank you very much for your lovely review, we're so happy that you enjoyed your stay. Apologies about the TV, we weren't aware there was a problem with live TV - this is now sorted and all channels are available. We have upgraded bunk bed mattresses on order and these will be arriving very soon!
Kind Regards
Alex
A nice base for our family for a few nights over half term, visiting Alton towers, Calke Abbey and the National memorial arboretum. Lots of games and books to keep the children entertained and plenty of room for everyone. Even a guitar for my daughter to practice on. There house looked newly decorated with lovely bathrooms and a nice big kitchen to cook in. The only slight downside was the noise from planes and trains at night so I’d say bring ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper. Otherwise spot on.

Hi Claire, thanks for the great review. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay and managed to get use out of the guitar, and games. We have tried our best to include a good selection and are always looking for new ones to add!
I’m really sorry you found the trains and planes a bit noisy, there are some flights and trains which go past in the night but only a couple so hopefully it didn’t disturb you too much, and it depends the wind direction whether they fly over at all.
Kind Regards
Mark.
The property was excellent and just what we needed for a long family weekend and meet up. There was everything we needed and access from M1 was quick. We had lovely walks along the canal and back through the village. Thanks will definitely stay again if we are in the area.

About the host
Hosted by Alex
We’re Mark and Alex, originally from Staffordshire. After several years living in Edinburgh & London, we settled in Derbyshire to start a family and enjoy village life. Mark runs a local building company, while Alex manages our holiday rental and sells vintage childrenswear. We love welcoming guests to our little corner of Derbyshire and helping them enjoy everything the area has to offer. Over the years we’ve hosted guests visiting for weddings, graduations, sports competitions and family get-togethers, and we’re always delighted to provide a comfortable place for people to relax and make special memories together.
Why they chose this property
We’ve lived in the village for over 20 years and raised our two (now nearly grown) children here, so it’s a place that means a lot to us. What we love most is the balance it offers — peaceful village life with space to breathe, while still having excellent transport links to the major cities of the East Midlands.
It’s a friendly community with an award-winning local pub and lovely canal-side walks right on the doorstep. And when you’re in the mood for even more open space, the beautiful Peak District is just a short drive away.
What makes this property unique
We designed our home based on our own experiences as guests. After too many stays drinking wine from tumblers and discovering board games with missing pieces, we decided the small things really matter! Our aim is to create a space that feels welcoming, comfortable and genuinely well equipped. From a kitchen stocked with the things you actually need, to carefully chosen games and books for cosy evenings, and beds that help everyone sleep well — everything has been thoughtfully considered. We hope it’s the kind of place where you arrive, settle in easily, and simply enjoy your holiday.
