Many of the village's old and new houses use sea-shore cobbles in their construction. Skipsea Castle ruins are just outside the village. The nearby seaside towns of Bridlington and Filey have long sandy beaches and numerous resort attractions. The Deep Submarium at Hull, Sledmere House and Burton Constable Hall are all within 20 miles, as are York's shops, cathedral and museum, Scarborough and the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway at Pickering.
