Please read the full description before booking. Shambala is not for everyone and we really want our guests to enjoy their experience at Shambala.
A Simple beach house in a spectacular location set on a rustic pebble beach where pine covered mountains tumble down to the sea in a quiet and remote village in the Paphos district of Cyprus.
Shambala is not a luxury villa, but it is comfortable, clean and fully equipped. The quiet village has a picturesque fishing harbour with an Excellent fresh fish tavern with spectacular views and a fabulous beach bar with cabana day beds and a lovely cove fir swimming in the summer, there’s a great coffee shop where you can also get breakfast and takeaways and grocery store, there’s even a Dragons Cave!
In the winter the village is very quiet, but an ideal retreat for walkers, writers and artists and we offer special monthly retreat prices from January through to April..
There are two bedrooms, however, the second bedroom has no sea views and is overlooked by holiday apartments. It has a kingsize and single bed. It may be suitable for teenagers or friends sharing. There is a small family bathroom with a shower over the tub and an additional toilet downstairs.
Shambala may not be suitable for anyone with physical limitations. The access to the beach is steep and uneven with steps made from beach pebbles. The beach itself is made of rocks and pebbles and is not your standard ‘pretty beach’, it’s a local beach, but the water is clear and when the waves are calm guests are able to swim directly infront of the house. We suggest bringing water shes for walking over the stones.
There are Sandy beaches within walking distance and at the beach bar there are sunbeds and daybeds right at the water’s edge.
In the summer the village is busy, but not with usual beach tourists. There are many hikers, painters, artists and writers. In the summer there is a Jazz and a Reggae festival in the village..
There is much to explore in the area, with mountain trails, tiny churches, a dam hidden in the forest & many vineyards. Latchi is a 25 minute drive where guests will find a marina lined with restaurants, beach bars and watersports, and the Akamas peninsula nature reserve. Guests can take a jeep safari or a boat out to the Blue Lagoon.
The village is rustic and rural with a mix of millionaires villas and village houses. There are also some undeveloped houses, as there are in much of Cyprus. In the winter there is little open in the village apart from the coffee shop and grocery store, but Argaka and Polis are just a 15 minute drive.
Pomos is a good 90 minute drive from Paphos airport, it is on the bus route but due to changes and times, it’s not really suitable to catch the bus from the airport. Please ask about car hire and we can put you in touch with the local firm.
Shambala is not suitable for children under 15 or pets.
Please note~ the cost of electricity is extremely high in Cyprus. We include air conditioning in the bedroom booked over night. With the sea breeze and fan, air conditioning is generally not needed in the day, even in August, but using it with the doors and windows open at night or leaving the units on during the day will take the usage over the complimentary limit. Guests are very welcome to use additional aircon and will be charged at the standard rate with surcharges per unit. We will refund the air conditioning fee, less any charges, within 5 days of departure. As of yet, over the last 2 years, we have not needed to charge any guests.
