About this property
Hut 36 at Cultybraggan Camp
Every building tells a story and this one certainly has a rich history! Hut 36 is one of five beautifully modernised and renovated Nissen huts that are part of the former Cultybraggan Prisoner of War Camp, just a mile outside the picturesque village of Comrie.
This hut is dog friendly. Cultybraggan have requested that dogs need to be on a lead at all times while on site and not allowed on sofas or beds.
Nissen huts were commonly used in PoW camps across Britain during World War II. While they were only intended to be temporary, Cultybraggan Camp lived on after the war as a MOD training centre for more than 70 years. It’s now the last remaining Prisoner of War Camp in Scotland and has been named by Historic Scotland as a Unique Heritage Asset of International Value.
Thanks to the vision of the Comrie Development Trust, which now owns the camp, five Nissen huts have been transformed into spacious, sustainable and modern self-catering accommodation. They’re ideal whether you’re a keen history buff or simply want a truly unique stay in the Perthshire countryside.
While the huts retain their iconic external design, they’ve all been given a major facelift with a bright red roof, crisp white exterior front wall, and black door and window trim, providing an Insta-worthy contrast to the vivid greens of the surrounding Aberuchill Hills.
Inside, Hut 36 has been completely transformed with a spacious open plan living room, fully-equipped kitchen and dining space, full of natural light. Blond wooden floors, cream interior walls, pale furniture tones and the white cabinetry of the kitchen add to the sense of space and calm. There’s comfortable seating including a sofa bed and television for when it's time to relax, plus a dining table with seating for 4.
The separate bedroom contains a king size bed, and there’s also a modern separate bathroom with a shower.

LOCATION
Cultybraggan Camp is situated two miles outside the picturesque village of Comrie, in the heart of Perthshire. The Camp, which belongs to the Comrie Development Trust, is home to local businesses and community groups. You can learn about the history of the camp at the informative PoW exhibition, which includes a recreation of prisoner accommodation.
Take a visit to Comrie village where you’ll find local shops and places to eat, with more options a little further along in the larger town of Crieff.
Comrie is a great base for exploring all the delights of Perthshire. Families will love a trip to Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre, set in the Perthshire hills, home to a variety of exotic and more familiar wildlife. Golfers are spoilt for choice with lots of quality local courses, or the famous Gleneagles is just half an hour’s drive away. It’s a walker’s paradise with options at all levels, from the Glenlendock Circular Walk that starts in Comrie, the popular and wheelchair-friendly Lady Mary’s Walk at Crieff, to the mighty Munros of Ben Vorlich, Stuc a Chorin and Ben Chonzie.
Welcome to Cultybraggan Camp, enjoy this unique stay!
Just a quick heads-up: there's a cattle grid at the entrance of the camp. Since we've got a bunch of small business outlets here, you might spot some vehicles coming and going in the early mornings and late evenings.
