The harbour is now a protected area, and the town's rich past is documented at the superb Beacon Heritage Centre. The area's coastline has a lot to offer, including historic smugglers' villages like Ravenglass and the picturesque red sandstone cliffs of St. Bees, where Wainwright's famous "Coast to Coast" Walk begins.
