About this property
Jacks Hideaway - a pod that sleeps 2 guests in 1 bedroom
Jacks Hideaway, one of 3 luxury pods with private Hot Tub and panoramic views of the surrounding Galloway countryside provides the ideal couples retreat. Located about a mile from the picturesque small rural town of Gatehouse of Fleet, the town provides numerous opportunities for eating out, small shops, a delightful and testing nine hole golf course, tennis courts, river and loch fishing. As the area is within the Galloway Forest Park, nominated Britain’s first Dark Sky Park, a clear night will present amazing opportunities for star gazing with the naked eye.
There are numerous nearby attractions and activities including Cream o' Galloway where you can participate in ice cream and cheese making workshops, stroll round their nature trails and of course enjoy delicious ice cream afterwards. Slightly further afield is Galloway Activity Centre which offers both land and water-based activities on the shores of Loch Ken. Sandy beaches and rocky coves for bathing, windsurfing and sailing are within a short drive, the nearest being about 3 miles away; sea fishing and horse riding are also available nearby; the Forestry Commission 7Stanes mountain biking trail at Kirroughtree is around 30 minutes' drive away; and the area is a haven for wildlife, with regular sightings of deer, red squirrels, and red kites. From the cottage door there are extensive walks and mountain bike rides over hills, past lochs, through forestry and down the valley. Slightly further afield but well worth a visit are Kirkcudbright known as the Artist's Town due to its links with the Glasgow Boys. The town is also home to the Dark Space Planetarium, Kirkcudbright Galleries, a cookery school, community run swimming pool, 18 hole golf course, an array of independent shops and eateries. The small town of Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town is a must for all bookworms, both young and old. To the east is the popular market town of Castle Douglas, with its vibrant high street of unique independent shops, cafes and restaurants, theatre and cinema, swimming pool and golf course. NTS Threave Estate is located on the edge of the town with Threave House & Gardens and Threave Castle all worth a visit.
