About this property
Powk Meadow Farmhouse - Luxury Cottages
At a glance
Garden made for outdoor living with a sauna, hot tub and Nordic BBQ Plenty of country walking trails and cycling routes begin from the farm Fantastic for exploring Offa's Dyke, cider mills and Black and White Villages
About the property
This black and white character cottage is over 300 years old and is full of charming features including the original flagstone floor. Set on a working farm with over 250 acres of farmland and backing onto an orchard where apples are grown for a local cider producer, it's an idyllic place to relax. Take a refreshing walk in the grounds and watch the calves graze in the orchard. As evening falls, sit in the eco hot tub, fed with water from the farm's spring, and watch the stars twinkle above. You might even hear the hoot of an owl if you're lucky. There is plenty to do nearby too including canoeing on the River Wye, following the Cider Route, or visiting Pembridge, about four miles away, which is part of the Black and White Villages Trail.
If you love the sound of this place but need more bedrooms, the cottage can be booked as a combination of two or a collection of three with Big Sky Hideaway and Curious Calf via our Guest Services team.
The space
The cottage comprises a charming 18th-century black and white timber building with a modern extension. It's located opposite the owners' farmhouse but is secluded. Decor is a sumptuous and elegant country style with upcycled vintage farm equipment providing unique pieces of furniture including desks and tables.
The cosy lounge has two comfortable sofas to sink into as you read a book, watch Netflix on the TV or admire the views over the fields, while the log burner is on-hand for chilly days.
The spacious kitchen/diner is bright and airy. All the kitchen equipment you will need is provided, while country features include the Belfast sink and the Aga (though, there's an electric cooker too). Meanwhile, the farmhouse dining table is the ideal spot to gather, savour a meal and chat about your day.
There are two bedrooms, both upstairs, one with a king-size bed, and the other with a super-king bed, high beamed ceilings and pretty views. They share a family bathroom which has a freestanding bath and a separate, walk-in shower, a sink and a WC. There is also the convenience of a downstairs WC.
Outside, there's a private garden that's more like an outdoor living room. You can easily while away the hours in the luxury sauna cabin which has a glass front offering views over the apple orchard. Plus, there's a spring-water, wood-fired hot tub where you can soak as you gaze at the rolling farmland. If you're feeling hungry, there's a Nordic barbecue grill to cook up a feast on.
Guest access
The owners will greet you on arrival and show you into the property.
Sustainability
The cottage benefits from solar panel and biomass boiler heating. The hot tub is wood-fired using sustainable wood and uses spring water sourced on-site. Water is then recycled back to the land. In addition, rain water is used for the farm animals to drink. There is no single use plastic and refillable and eco-cleaning products are used. The farm also commits to the conservation of wildlife habitats.
