Town: Leiston is located in the heart of the Suffolk Heritage Coast and offers excellent links to the popular seaside towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh. The town thrived by manufacturing steam tractors, and cast and machined metal products, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town is now home to many of the workers of the nearby power plant, Sizewell, and is served well by an active leisure centre and the oldest purpose-built cinema in Suffolk, which today offers the latest digital 3D projection systems! The 14th century remains of Leiston Abbey lie northwest of the town and its high street has a good range of shops, banks, pubs, restaurants and takeaways, plus a Post Office and a library. RSPB Minsmere is a short drive away towards the coastline of the Suffolk Heritage Coast, which offers lovely walking opportunities through this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
