About this property

Mount Vernon is comfortably furnished to a high standard throughout with many interesting and beautiful features. The sitting room has an open fireplace. The library and terrace bedrooms open onto an extensive walled garden with lawns, herbaceous borders and a small orchard. The immense trees are thought to have been a gift from George Washington when the house was built. The spacious kitchen has a welcoming Aga and is fully kitted out for all culinary needs.

Mount Vernon was previously owned by Lady Gregory and has hosted and inspired poets and luminaries such as Yeats and Shaw. The house is alive with the past while fitted with all the necessities of today. There is high speed wifi throughout the house, a 32” television with Netflix, and a smart home system including Alexa to soundtrack your stay. The house is available for rent on a self-catering basis and sleeps eleven people

Incredible!!!

We loved our stay so much, we wished we booked this house longer! The history of the property we learned from the property manager was astounding. The views of the water, back garden, and lounging on the couch just looking at the walls around us were priceless. Highly recommend staying at this property if you want to feel like you’re really in Ireland!

One of a kind experience

Mt. Vernon offers a rich history and tons of character to enhance any vacation to Ireland or Flaggy Shore. Our communication and walk through with Brenda, the property manager was attentive and thorough. Mark, the property owner, was engaging and incredibly helpful for whatever we needed (even just some attention from his beautiful dog Lily); he even went so far as to provide a gift basket with local food and drink from the area upon our arrival. The home was clean and the many of the rooms had incredible views of Galway Bay. Everything was comfortable and homey. This property would make a dreamy summer home, but even in the autumn had tons of charm! Every room had so many books which just lends itself to its rich literary history of Lady Gregory and other authors/poets that have stayed there. I'm definitely going to come back and stay again! I cannot recommend it enough!

Beautiful Home Filled with History

I stayed here with 5 other adult family members and it was so perfect as everyone had their own room and bathroom! Brenda was so welcoming and easy to communicate with. Mark stopped over to say hello after looking for his dog Lily who we had fallen in love with and had in the home hanging out with us. Great people and great home rich with history!
