About this property
Stunning french townhouse with river frontage and private pool.
Stunningly beautiful manor house with wonderful, far reaching views along the river Charente. This spacious property sleeps 14 people in 7 bedrooms, making it well suited for families travelling together or an ideal place for that special celebration. The house is unique in terms of its facilities and location, situated in the pretty market town of Saint Savinien sur Charente, it is just a short stroll from the market, boutique shops, bars and restaurants and yet the property boasts 2 private gardens, 1 with river frontage and terrace and the other with a large private pool, terraces and covered games area, giving you truly the best of both worlds.
Set over 3 floors, the house has an open plan kitchen and dining area, which leads directly onto the terrace, pool area and garden, a games room with billiard/snooker table, sitting room and office area. There is also a utility room with washing machine and large fridge/freezer. The 7 bedrooms are set over the first and second floors. On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms overlooking the river, both with kingsize beds and one with ensuite bathroom (bath with shower). On this floor there are 2 more double bedrooms at the rear of the property which overlook the garden and pool, and a family bathroom (with bath). On the top floor there are 3 further bedrooms with 4/5 single beds and one double and another family bathroom (with bath).
To the rear of the house is a beautiful terrace with outdoor tables and chairs, a stunning and large (13mx6m) pool, covered games area with table tennis and table football. There is also a shower room with toilet that has direct access to the pool area. The house is situated on the Quai and to the front of the property, over a quiet one way street, is a riverside garden and terrace with outstanding views along the river Charente. Here there is a gate to a pontoon from the front garden, easy access to the river for paddleboarders and kayakers (not provided), with garage storage for your equipment.
Nearby local amenities include, restaurants, bars, boutique shops and art galleries, boulangeries, delicatessen, market and train station, all within walking distance. There is a large well equipped modern supermarket (Super U) on the edge of the town. Situated between La Rochelle and Bordeaux and a short drive from the stunning Atlantic coast you will truly be spoilt for things to see and do, we are very easily accessible from all the major ports plus flights into La Rochelle, Bordeaux and Poitiers mean you can travel here from most UK airports.
The following are just a few examples to give you a taste of the many activities we have locally to us; Horse riding at our local stables - Les 3 Allures. Canoeing and Kayaking. Water skiing and wakeboarding locally in Taillebourg (also recommended are the riverside restaurants/cafes in Taillebourg and Port D'Envaux). Hire a boat from Les Canotiers in St Savinien, for an hour or a full day, take a picnic and explore this beautiful river. Hire a mini river boat for the kids on Frog Island, just over the bridge in St Savinien. In the summer there is also an inflatables park for the children. Cycling, cycle along the Charente and enjoy our beautiful countryside, (bike hire is available locally, there are 2 bikes that we are happy for guests to use in the garage). Chateau Roche Courbon, Chateau de Panloy, Chateau de Crazannes (said to be the inspiration for Puss in Boots). Local artisan sculptures and caves at Lapidiales. www.lapidiales.org A little further afield, the Aquarium at La Rochelle is one of the largest Aquariums in Europe. Zoo La Palmyre. Puy de Fou, well worth the trip, plan your day and prepare to be amazed. We stayed for 2 weeks as an extended family of 10 adults ranging from 20 to 70 and one toddler and we couldn’t ask for anything more, beautiful setting overlooking the Charente, fantastic swimming pool and lovely house. Lovely towns and villages around to visit and the twilight market is a must ! We were welcomed by everyone we met apart from one neighbour who told us this is not a place for holidays ?? It most certainly is ! Only one negative was the tiger mosquitos which despite taking all precautions still managed to bite all but 2 of the family - unfortunately we have found this seems to be an issue all over France now , but it it didn’t spoil our holiday and we made lots of precious memories .
The house was very well equipped and had all the kitchen appliances we could wish for, along with plentiful crockery, glassware and cutlery ( so often lacking in holiday rentals).
Large swimming pool with one end deep enough for diving which made for fun competitions with the young adults. Beautifully landscaped around the pool with numerous little seating areas so we could get away from the main group when peace was needed!
The front garden, with its direct access to the river was so pretty and we loved launching the paddle boards from our own private mooring platform.
So convenient to be able to walk five minutes to the boulangerie or little supermarket each morning and lovely not to have to use the car each time.
We had a great week swimming, cycling and paddleboarding, eating at various local restaurants, visiting La Rochelle and Saintes and just generally relaxing in a typical town of the region.
Maison spacieuse et bien située au bord de la Charente. Parfaite pour une grande famille.
Seul petit hic : étant ancienne, les bruits circulent beaucoup.
This is a beautiful house, with amazing furnishings and facilities. It had everything we needed and more, and the pool was such a hit with the kids. Deborah’s communication was great.
We couldn’t have asked for more - the men even caught a few fish in the river - their holiday made!!
We loved it, can’t wait to go back.
We stayed in the house as part of a wedding close by. We couldn’t have wished for a better house. The pool was fantastic, the House spacious and so many nice places to sit and choose from. We made good use of the riverside garden for sundowners. The Location was ideal for strolling to the local bar and picking up croissants in the morning. The kitchen had everything we needed, the bedrooms were large and the beds comfy. All in all a fantastic house for a family get together.
Enchantez par notre séjour au cœur de St Savinien dans cette belle demeure adaptée à une grande famille. La piscine et ses abords nous ont fait passer de très bons moments
