Town: The elevated scattered village of Watermillock runs parallel to the main road alongside Ullswater Lake and is mainly a farming community. Just 2.5 miles away is Pooley Bridge with its array of amenities which sits on the northern shore of the lake in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley originated due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. Glenridding (meaning glen overgrown with bracken) is a small tourist village with a range of local shops, cafes and restaurants. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Watermillock is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.

All prior communication was fine, it would be helpful to have a file with more instructions, and suggestions for trips, cafes, pubs etcKitchen spacious and very well equipped, with both a kitchen table and a large separate dining table in the huge living area. It would be very cosy in the winterBedrooms well equipped with very clean quality linenRather firm mattresses and pillowsThree separate bathrooms/ shower rooms and loos which was excellent. Good powerful showers.Outside decoration looked very fresh and smart and the views from the bedrooms, living room and kitchen are wonderful. The rooms and terrace face east so no evening sun.Very secluded and thus very quiet. There are drawbacks. You have to use the car to access either the fells, the lake or any shops. To enter or exit the gated driveway from or onto the busy A592 is not for the faint hearted. It is not advisable to walk on the A592 as it is narrow, undulant and windy with fast busy traffic. It is a beautiful road and there are many lay byes and other parking access to the lake for swimming paddleboarding etc.Glenridding has a car park and community field 15 minutes drive from the farm which is a wonderful spot the enjoy an active day by the lake. The ferry to Howtown or Pooley Bridge from Glenridding is a must but extremely expensive.A wonderful area to holiday
