Built in the 1920s by the artist and embroiderer Ann Macbeth, High Bield is a remarkable house which was completely refurbished a few years ago. It was built high on the fell and takes in views of Brotherswater and Ullswater and offers walking from the door to High St, Helvellyn, St Sunday Crag, Fairfield and many other popular spots. Almost every room has a spectacular view, especially the twin room which was originally an artist's studio. The house oozes charm and is very comfortable and warm, with a woodburner in the sitting room.

This is such a special place to stay. Views are absolutely stunning and the house is delightful. Loved the bedrooms. But if you're used to wide, flat Western Australian roads like we are, just be aware the drive up is not for the fainthearted! Wished we had longer to stay, would definitely come back if we had the opportunity, this was our favourite of all the places we stayed in the UK.
The location and this well-equipped, homely cottage made for the perfect stay. Our host Fiona couldn’t do enough to help answer questions and help us as our plans changed a little during the week. Five stars and we would love to stay at High Bield again sometime!
We had a great stay, big enough to not feel cramped, clean, warm, fantastic view and we saw red squirrels every morning! Very narrow steep drive so would bring a car with decent ground clearance to not hit the bash plate when driving over the water drain
Beautifully situated house in a beautiful area! Equipped with all conveniences. We were pleasantly surprised by the outdoor space/garden next to and behind the house.Highly recommended for a wonderful stay in Lake District. The partly unpaved road to the house is fabulous but bumpy. Despite doable, even with a lower car, so don't let that put you off!We loved our stay and are inspired by the nature in this beautiful area. Lots of walking paths It was more than worth the trip from the Netherlands.
Lovely cottage full of character with truly amazing views which we all enjoyed although we were not blessed with good weather throughout. The cottage is well equipped so even when the weather isn't so good there's still plenty to enjoy. Husband and friends enjoyed several walks from the property. Getting up the drive in the car the first time was a bit scary so easier just to leave it parked as walking is definitely easier.
This was our third time staying here and we absolutely love it. It has beautiful views, amazing walks without having to take the car, well equipped kitchen. It is just perfect and we will be back again!
Great location, don’t be put off by long drive to cottage, it’s well worth it. Loads of walks and boat trips, easy drive to Ambleside and Grasmere. Loved it, just loved it.
Great stay in a quieter area of the lakes.
Magnificent views all around the property. Lots of walks nearby.
Nice and cosy property especially with the log burner. Comfy beds and everything you would need for a relaxing few days away.
An amazing week over from NZ. The location was perfect, the house incredible well equipped with wonderful views and comfy rooms. Will definitely be recommit friends
We absolutely loved the cottage would recommend 100%
We loved staying at this place and would definitely like to stay here again, literally had everything we needed and had lovely views, the only thing we couldn’t find was the bins and recycling bins to put our rubbish in.
