About this property

Abbey Church 3, The Ratisbon

The Ratisbon is a ground floor apartment, large and beautifully decorated, which has a private terrace with views out across the Monastery Lawn. The large reception room, master bedroom and guest bedroom also benefit form stunning views across the loch. The large master bedroom has a double bed, with a built in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom with a bath and a walk-in shower. There is a second twin bedroom and a family bathroom. The property can accommodate 4 people and guests can also use the double sofa bed in the lounge for an additional adult or 2 small children. The apartment has a separate kitchen/dining room with plenty of room and it is ideal for families or for a romantic lochside break. All guests receive a Highland Club welcome pack which includes a bottle of wine and a variety of snacks.
The Highland Club is a collection of 4 and 5 star self catered apartments (serviced daily) set in 20 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds on the south shore of Loch Ness, also cradled by the Caledonian Canal and the River Tarff.
It occupies Grade A listed gothic buildings, originally the 1729 English fortification which became St Benedict’s Abbey. Located in the centre of The Highlands, Fort Augustus Abbey provides comfortable, private apartments as a relaxing base from which to explore Urquhart Castle, Culloden, Clava Cairns, Skye, Ben Nevis and whisky distilleries.

The Highland Club is unique, steeped as it is in centuries of Scottish history, and a special, relaxing place to stay – either on a self-catered holiday or as an owner of one of the luxury residences. Amenities exclusively for use by those who are staying with us include an indoor pool, steam and sauna, the club lounge and snooker room.

Within the grounds there is a tennis court and many other facilities including outdoor chess in the Cloister Garden, table tennis, badminton, croquet, boules, 5-a-side football and a cricket pitch with nets. The Boathouse Restaurant with its exclusive Loch side view is available both to guests and the local community alike.

Explore the grounds, walk along the shores of Loch Ness, stroll along the Caledonian Canal watching boats go by. From here the opportunities are limitless – from the more typical activities of walking, cycling, golf, sailing, fishing, shooting, archery, wow balling, ski-ing (in winter) and bird watching to the more unusual such as dog sledding and Munro Bagging.

Truly an unforgettable, one of a kind accommodation!
The monastery itself is breathtaking, as well as the setting right on the lake. The common facilities like the game room and pool were great amenities to have during our time there, as well as the lakefront restaurant. We had adjoining rooms with a patio, so our families spent a lot of time outside enjoying the beauty of Loch Ness around us. Derek was a very welcoming host and the welcome baskets were such a nice touch! Thank you everyone who made our stay unforgettable!

In 2003 The Santon Group, a respected developer of listed buildings, purchased the dilapidated Grade A listed buildings and grounds of St Benedict's Abbey. A £30 million conversion of the site into The Highland Club was embarked upon and finally completed in 2012.

The Santon Group is dedicated to preserving the special character and many beautiful features of the Abbey, its cloisters and the great towers that make it such a landmark. However, inside a programme of total renovation and discreet building has transformed the original spartan accommodation into 97 distinctive one, two and three bedroom apartments. In addition, there are 12 charming cottages in the grounds.

Today the austerity of monastic life has given way to the warmth of modern leisure living.

The Highland Club is managed by a team of helpful on site staff who are overseen by the ever friendly Highland Club Manager, Mark Dallas.
