The grounds lead down to a traditional hay meadow which accesses the river bank and there is much fun to be had throwing stones or paddling in the river or just sitting and soaking up the beauty and peace of the valley. There are many footpaths close at hand including Isaac’s Tea Trail, a long distance footpath which can be accessed from the footbridge across the river. Allendale Town, three miles away, is a lively place with pubs serving good food, a café, craft shop and a well stocked co-op.
