About this property
Idyllic New Forest Thatched Cottage with 5 Bedrooms and Gardens in Godshill
Located in the quaint Hampshire village of Godshill, near to Fordingbridge town, on the north side of the stunning New Forest National Park, "The Cottage" is the perfect countryside retreat for families or friends, in one of the most gorgeous rural areas of England.
Our five-bedroom thatched country cottage accommodates guests across three double and two twin single rooms, in an elegant, stylish, and beautifully renovated home.
The building's origins are thought to date back to the 15th century and has undergone significant modernisation in recent years. It offers guests luxury country accommodation with plenty of space to unwind within its breathtaking rooms and outdoor spaces.
Inside is a successful blend of the old and new, where classic furniture pieces and wonderful original features meet with meticulous finishing and contemporary fittings. The stunning thatch roof flows around the eaves, dormers, and ridges like a piece of art; whilst the gardens show off an array of plant life, nurtured and landscaped over the years.
The ground floor reveals its charm straight away with exposed oak beams and brickwork, stone and wood flooring, and traditional leaded windows.
Off the main hallway is a large double-aspect lounge that’s both cosy and full of character — complete with deep-seated leather sofas, a substantial original inglenook fireplace, and smart TV with Sky and Blu-Ray player. It’s the ideal place to unwind and put your feet up after a country ramble. In addition to the TV, there’s boardgames and a collection of DVDs.
There’s a large shower room off the hallway, completed in a modern style, with light stone tiles, walk-in shower, toilet & basin, and underfloor heating.
On the opposite side of the cottage to the lounge, is the first of the five bedrooms — a simple, yet ample double room, which features a wooden bed, chest of drawers, desk & chair, and a view through the windows of the front garden and pond.
An impressive dining table sits in the middle of the ground floor spaces, and seats 6 comfortably around a solid rectangular table with cushioned tall chairs, which leads through to the kitchen at the garden side of the property.
The kitchen space is exquisitely finished in light tones with a granite worktop. It has a garden and patio view, and comes fully-equipped with everything you would need for your stay, including a fridge freezer, oven & hob, separate AGA, dishwasher, washing machine, a small table and chairs, and an abundance of storage. There’s plenty of cookware, glassware, crockery, and cutlery for all your mealtimes.
Up a flight of stairs to the upper vaulted floor, reveals firstly a large double bedroom, with views over the front and rear of the property. This grand bedroom also features some beautiful furniture pieces with chests of drawers, a wardrobe, an end-of-bed trunk, as well as a storage cupboard, and large walk-in wardrobe space.
Along the upper hallway, there are two twin single bedrooms — one toward the rear garden side of the property, and the other on the opposite front side, both with beautiful wooden beds and both with a very comfy and cosy feel.
At the far end of the hallway is the third double bedroom, in another elegant and peaceful room, with views over the front and rear of the property, and with storage pieces for belongings.
The family bathroom on the upper floor harks back to another era, and features a Victorian-style toilet, bidet and basin, lovely oak wood flooring, and a roll-top bath.
Outside, there’s a private-gated gravel driveway at the front, enough for at least a few cars, and a koi pond. To the rear of the building is a patio area with an outdoor table, chairs and parasol — overlooking a tiered garden with an amazing array of trees, shrubs and flowers. A small pathway leading up from the patio leads to a substantial private lawned garden with benches, an absolutely perfect space for a sunny day.
The wonders of The New Forest are literally on your doorstep with direct access onto the forest where natural heath and woodland await, ideal for walking, cycling, and riding.
A traditional New Forest country pub is a 5 minute walk away, and The Cottage is also a short stroll from the popular Sandyballs Holiday Park.
