About this property

Charming 17th Century Cottage In Croscombe, Somerset

Situated in the heart of the ancient village of Croscombe Millview is just 100m from the village pub; no drink driving here.

The entrance hall to Millview with its beautiful old flagstones worn to a polish by generations of boots and shoes has a stone archway leading into the earlier section of the house dating from the very earliest years of the 17th century. Here, the stairs lead up to the first floor.
Sitting Room

The sitting room beyond has a welcoming log burning stove set into a huge inglenook fireplace. This fireplace houses a seven foot deep bread oven although now the door has been replaced by a beautiful stained glass window made by the owner showing the nearby Glastonbury Tor. Again, the floor is of ancient flagstones but here for comfort covered in part by a carpet. The sitting room is complete with digital LCD TV with DVD Player and comfortable seating for up to 6 people.

Dining Room
The adjacent dining room has a large table, easily seating 6 people. In this room there is an original glass fronted cupboard built into the wall, and a fireplace with a dressed stone surround. Under the window is a wooden chest with an assortment of board games.

Kitchen
The galley style kitchen is beautifully fitted with a full range of appliances, and is fully equipped to provide for up to 6 people. Leading from the kitchen is a small utility area with a washing machine, fridge freezer and a microwave.
Upstairs
There are two bedrooms on the first floor, one with a double bed and the other with a double and a single bed, both bedrooms have polished wood floors with rugs. The larger of these two bedrooms has an ornate cast iron fireplace set into the corner of the wall.
PLEASE NOTE We do not live locally so are unable to provide bed linen or towels,
duvets and pillows are of course supplied.

Bedroom 1 Bedroom 2

The bathroom is also on the first floor, and has a free standing roll top bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Although the ceilings are high the doorways are not, you have been warned!

Garden
The pretty garden at the rear of the house is tranquil with only the chatter of jackdaws that congregate around the nearby church to intrude on the peace. The garden is mostly laid to lawn with flower beds and mature shrubs.

There is a gas powered BBQ and loungers provided together with a table, umbrella and chairs for al fresco dining.

Fabulous base for exploring Somerset
Millsview is one of a row of beautiful stone cottages. Our family of 3 adults enjoyed a fabulous fortnight exploring Somerset and other parts of the West Country. Coming back to Millsview after a day’s walking or touring about by car (often both) was such a pleasure. The bedrooms are airy and the beds comfortable. The two main rooms downstairs are large enough for everyone to have their own space for reading, working remotely or watching the tennis. Plenty of games are provided too. The kitchen is small but had everything we needed and looks up to a very pretty cottage garden that has a view of the village church and a lovely iron garden setting where we ate when the weather behaved. The local pub, the George Inn, served great food and the hosts made us feel very welcome. All in all staying at Millsview was a truly wonderful experience!

Lovely stay
Sweet cottage in a lovely village. It is wonderfully located as a base to visit the surrounding areas in Somerset. Loved the hedgehogs in the garden, bats flying at night, toy mouse peeking out of the cupboard, and even the stuffed snake in the hearth. Thank you for a great stay.

A fantastic family escape!
We decided on a fairly last minute break, during half term with the family. Mill View. What a find! Located in the beautiful, welcoming village of Croscombe, which is a stones throw from Shepton Mallet. The accommodation offers a spacious and quirky stay in this wonderful old building. Lovely and warm with effective central heating, very well equipped with a delightful enclosed garden. Located right on the Mendips there are many stunning walks afoot. Cheddar, Wookey and Longleat (to name a few) are all within a 30 minute drive. Lovely local pub just 100 yards from the front door too. Perfect! Great communication from the owner. Thanks again. We shall certainly be returning!

Lovely cottage full of character
We absolutely loved our stay in Millview for 5 nights in late October leading up to Halloween. As soon as you walk through the door it's like being transported back in time. The lovely stone floor and arched door leading to the sitting room with a huge fire place and log burner (which we didn't need to use as the central heating was more than sufficient). There was a good sized dining room to the front of the house. Full of character. The cottage had everything you would need. The kitchen was small but practical with all you need to self cater. The bedrooms were nice and large, but cozy at the same time, with plenty of storage. (My wife covered the creepy dolls on the sofa in the bedroom with a cushion😄). Nice bathroom with roll top bath and shower. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the garden but it was very well kept and would be lovely in the summer. The pub 2 minutes away was a bit too convenient and served great food. We had no trouble parking, either in the side road by the church or on the main road through the village. Millview is perfectly located for tourism in all directions. In the space on 5 days we visited Chedder, Wookey Hole, Bath (roman baths) Glastonbury, Weston-super-Mare and a few other places so by the evenings it was nice to go and sit in the pub and enjoy a good meal, before relaxing in front of the TV then a good night's sleep ready for the next days adventures. Would have no hesitation staying again any time off year.
