The farm is located at the edge of Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain in Portugal. It has two houses surrounded by several acres of land with Pine and Olive trees and the typical granite landscape of the region. The countryside is lovely, surrounded by small hills.
The space is ideal for walking, enjoying nature, breathing the fresh mountain air and birdwatching in the peace of the countryside. Perfect for families looking for a natural getaway.
The space
A flock of sheep grazes around the farm and the milk is used to produce the typical Queijo da Serra, one of the tastiest cheeses in the country.
Both houses are at the disposal of our guests, as well as our hammocks hung on the olive trees near the house. We also have a pateo with bbq and an old granite water tank, where you can bathe in the Summer.
The farm is near the picturesque village of Vila Ruiva, 10km from Fornos de Algodres and Gouveia (where paragliding is popular). Nearby there are some archaeologic sites, a rich nature with varied fauna and flora, walking trails and many typical villages with exquisite gastronomy. Some regional dishes include the typical Serra cheese, roast lamb, pork cooked on roof tiles, regional home made sausages and the delicious rye bread with olive oil. All this in the famous Dão wine region.
We are only 50km from the highest top of Portugal and 80km from the border with Spain.
Other things to note
The internet connection is a bit weak at times due to thick granite walls. When the sheep are at the farm, they are accompanied by three regional shepard dogs that guard them and they bark some times (but don't worry, they are very sweet). The road that leads to the farm is a dirtroad.
