About this property

Penny Pot Cottage, Middleham, Yorkshire Dales

Tastefully restored to provide spacious accommodation over three floors, Penny Pot Cottage is a charming and comfortable home from home for a solo traveller or couple. Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park in a lovely area of Middleham, this mid-terraced Yorkshire stone cottage features pleasant views from almost every window, including views of Middleham Castle and the lovely spectacle of the many racehorses passing by, and also benefits from the village pubs, shop and cafés being a two minute walk away.

Middleham lies at the joining of Coverdale and Wensleydale on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and offers wonderful walking and cycling routes through glorious countryside right from the doorstep of Penny Pot Cottage.

The front door opens into a light and airy dining room with a welcoming, cosy wood burning stove. The spacious kitchen beyond is bright and well-equipped, with a stable door leading to the courtyard and outdoor seating area. A cosy king-size bedroom, and a modern bathroom with underfloor heating are located on the first floor. Take the stairs to the second floor to discover the delightful sitting room with Smart television and DVD player, plus a selection of games and books. A special feature is the bespoke drinks bar which houses a wine cooler, and there is also a Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and mini sink. Settle in for the evening to enjoy the views of the castle and the range of characterful traditional buildings to front and rear.

Leave your car parked on the cobbles for a day or two and explore this historic village with cobbled alleyways, traditional pubs, antique shops and, of course, the many racing stables for which Middleham is famed. The mediaeval castle with the remains of the largest keep in northern England which was the childhood home of Richard III, is not to be missed.

Take an early morning walk to see the horses exercising at the gallops on Middleham Low Moor, followed by breakfast (perhaps al fresco at the cottage, or at one of the eateries in the village) - what a start to the day! Follow up with a hearty lunch or supper at one of Middleham's four traditional pubs, or opt for one of several fine restaurants located in the village and the local area.

Middleham lies at the joining of Coverdale and Wensleydale on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and offers wonderful walking and cycling routes through glorious countryside right from the doorstep.
